Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Eibach Pro Kit "Lowering"

    Hey Guys,

Got my Pro Kit installed last Friday, sad to say Im not really happy about the aesthetic changes....
Handling-wise, it firmed up the roll on corners nicely with no negative effects on ride.
But...It almost seems like there is no change in ride height when a 20mm drop is specified. Im not too sure about how "settling" suspension works, but I was wondering if someone with stock suspension on their GTI could measure the gap between the tyre and wheel arch for me on front + back??
I know I shouldve done this before I got the springs, just ran out of time.
I will measure mine when I get home and post em also.

    Thanks ppl.

    20mm ain't much!

I remember in early 2006 I enquired with Eibach for a price on their coilover kit. $5000+ haha

Was this kit for a Polo GTI or just a Polo?

If it was just for a Polo then you will have stuff all difference in height because the GTI is already 15mm lower than the stock ones (Therefore you would have only dropped the car 5mm).
      Cheers,

The Kit is a 40mm drop on a Polo and 20mm on a GTI if I remember correctly on the product specifications sheet on the Eibach site....

That's interesting then. There should have been some noticable drop. Also remember that the spring will need to seat in properly yet which will drop the car further. Hopefully after a few weeks you will get the drop you were after.

Another silly question, are you sure it wasn't a 40mm drop on the rear and a 20mm drop on the front for a standard Polo?
          Cheers,

          John

i can understand if you cant see much of a drop, 2cm aint that much. though if anything atleast it helps your handling.

You got me paranoid so I checked the spec sheet

20mm Front, 20mm Back on GTI
              30mm Front, 30mm Back on 1.4TDi, 1.9SDi and 1.9TDi

Between wheel arch and centre of wheel (just incase you have bigger diameter wheels/different profile tires etc)

                Front: 345mm
                Rear: 360mm

                Standard wheels/tires/suspension
                car has done 740kms

its been concluded on this forum before that the eibach springs are a very subtle lowering. it still looks like a stockish ride height.

if you wanted low you should have gone with the H&R springs. there's plenty of pics on here showing both ride heights.

                    Thanks for that!

                    I just measured mine.... disappointing.

They are within millimetres of your measurements....
                    that really sux.

I didnt go H&R coz I didnt have the money to get shocks as well, so I just went Eibach, knowing it wouldnt be a huge drop... but was at least expecting an ACTUAL drop.....

                    dammit.

I've got the Eibach too, and while it's not a huge drop, it's certainly noticable. I think it makes the car look much nicer. Also makes a huge difference to the handling, reducing understeer a lot.

Hey, if you wouldnt mind, could you measure the wheel arch to centre cap for front and back??
Would be interesting to see the difference.

                        Thanks!

Yeah, I'll measure it no worries, but it'll be in 2 weeks, cause I'm in Hawaii.
