  • light weight batterys

hi guys, just a thaught i stumbled onto this site while still looking for options for a cold air intake for the polo (yeah i know this again, but seriously if everyone gave up nothing ever happens). these batteries are light wieght, about 2.5kg, very small and have a life of about 5-10 years, they also have a range of other bonuses (have a read on the site). now the down side they are hugely expensive, though probably not much more then what you would spend on a few batterys in 10 years anyway and you have the added bonus of it wieghing a hell of a lot less too.

so the point your asking?, these batterys are so small you could probably mount them just about anywhere, evan over the other side of the engine bay which doesnt seem to evan have space for such an endever. evan under the back seat? not sure on this one, not sure if theres any space. any way heres the link.

just thaught this would spark some ideas from someone.

mike, looks like a pretty cool battery mate the only thing and i do hate being the negative one, it says for race use only. So be worried bout insurance road worthiness etc with this in place

true though , youd really have to ask your self how many cops lift the hood of your car to see if everything is legal . though i see your point.

mmm true , worst case scenario i guess the insurance companies going to be making up all sorts of stories to cover there a$$es so they dont pay anything.
point duely noted. might email them see if they make a road varient,

This has been done by GT3 before. He used an Odyssey 680 battery, there are pictures floating round.

Deka batteries are for Harleys/bikes/ATV's etc. But on a tester it had CCA of 720amps vs the oddyssey 680 which only had 390. It PWNED the oddyssey. Deka is a favourite of the go kart and biker community. Good enough for my 1.4! :happyanim:

yeah , i new a few people had done it but wasnt quite sure how small the odessy battery was, the one on that site that i posted looks tiny. though that "deka" brand battery looks really bloody small too. i think this will be my next project after i get my car back together.

any idea where you can pick up that deka battery?

You can get sealed deep-cycle batteries which are quite small (such as the odyssey) for like $350... I would not waste $899 on this solution

yeah i looked at the price and nearly fell over, though it does last 5 to ten years. most run of the mill batteries only last round 3 years, and if your forking out 200-250 a pop it such a bad price. though like i said it was only an idea. truth be told i didnt realise the odysey was so small, and it sounds like a much better option

Here's a kit - not specifically for the Polos (I should have posted this with the other link), but should be easy enough to make it work and look decent.

                          The Deka comes from BatteryWorld.
Interesting link on the momentum site to a thread on vwvortex too.
