  • Front Number Plate

Need to attach a new font plate.

Car came back from panel beaters with a new front bar and there are no holes in it.

Before I drill holes, does anyone know if this is right? You just drill where the holes on the plates are?

Mine came with self tappers from the dealer.
    Cheers,

    John

You'd know better than anyone Peter but I thought you didn't really need to have a front number plate. It's only illegal if you don't have a rear one?

Is this BS i've heard for many years?

Rhys, i call b/s as you can also get done for having ur number plate not in the manufacters mounting point, but i know u can get away without having one on a motorbike.

          Its definately B/S..

A mate of mine in his Lamborghini Diablo (yes Lamborghini Diablo) was at my house.

Car parked on the side of the road in a suburban street... 7.30pm..

A cop car drives by and immediately does a u-turn and pulls up..

Gets out and looks at us... Nice car boys.. He walked around it and put his hand on the rear tyres to see if they were hot.. (They werent)

Who car is it? It was registered to my friends dad.. My mate told the officer it was his dads..

The officer says...does he know you have the car. My mate said whats it your concern? Then the officer says "wheres the front number plate". My mate responds it doesnt have one... there is nowhere to put it.. We bought the car without a front number plate.

The officer threatened to defect the car if he didnt return the car home.. He returned it home immediately.

So Id have to conclude front number plate is necessary.

I think the only way to get away with no front plate would be if there was no mounting point for it and you got it engineered that way. If there is a mounting point and/or you don't get it engineered then you've got no hope of getting away with not having one.

One the day I took delivery, the dealer waited for me to arrive before putting my front plate on. I walked in and some guy was about to screw the plate on when the salesman came running it shouting, "Don't put it on yet! The gentleman is a designer, if it's not on right, he won't be happy."

I asked if there was any other way to attach the plate, but they didn't. Thankfully the self tappers they used were very small so I don't imagine it would be too hard to mend if I needed to change the plates.

definately (100%) need a front number plate in queensland. If you got a cop without his daily coffee, it is defect worthy. 95% of cops probably wouldn't care, though I've witnessed it. 4WD lost it in the mud, good times

My plates are mounted to a big steel bracket that's screwed on.

I had to drill holes in the mounting bracket to match the ones on the car already, took so long as the tools I had were pretty crap.

Luckily it's all covered up and I can get new brackets when I sell the plates.

I have mine double sided taped on...I was the same after I got mine back in January.
I drove around for 6 weeks without a front plate, and didn't get questioned once. This included the 2500km drive between Penrith and Townsville, in which I passed about 20 cop cars, I also drove around here in Townsville, going on cruises on thursday nights, and general driving around, and never got a second look...
Its up to you, just drive around with the plate in the car until you get hit up for it, or mount it with tape.
"If can't get behind your troops, feel free to stand in front of them..."

i remember when i lived in canada Quebec cars didn't need to have front plates, but since there are some speed and toll cameras that take an image of the front plates it makes sense for it to be mandatory. It was pretty bizarre seeing cars without front plates (till i got used to it)

found this photo..looks weird without them

                              front plate is legal requirment.

just drill 2 holes into the bumper.

i watched mine being done at dealer.

double sided tape wont secure it.
