I heard a rumour today that they won't be releasing the GTI in Australia? -- Apparently due to poor sales. I hope that's not true.

Well if they don't release the new polo GTI here it will be good for resale value! A shame for those looking to upgrade though, and surprising as I have seen more polo GTIs than any of their competition.NickZ

I can't see them discounting. They never really have in the past with the GTI (except for the non-onroad cost deals they do randomly). When I bought mine last October I had a 4 week wait because it was still in transit on a ship. So it's not like they are carrying huge stock in holding yards like Mazda, etc do. Little stock = Little reason to discount.Originally posted by pologti18t View PostI love it when people come up with such illogical comments. If indeed it is true then poor sales = discounting = worse resale.

Dealership. I know, not the most reliably source which is why I said rumour and not, "OMFGBBQHAX!!!!111!! WE"RE NOT GETTING the GTI11111!!"Originally posted by Markybhoy View PostWhere did you hear the rumour from?
I don't understand the logic myself. Unless they think that all current Polo GTI owners looking to upgrade will turn to the Golf GTI?sigpic

So do IOriginally posted by pologti18t View PostI love it when people come up with such illogical comments. If indeed it is true then poor sales = discounting = worse resale.
. Why does poor sales automatically lead to discounting? Discounting is due to supply > demand. If we have had lower than expected sales and not a lot of stock in the first place (which was my experience when buying the car), then your comment is illogical.
As far as I am concerned, regardless of the current situation of supply v demand, if a decision is made to not replace the Polo GTI, resale will be higher and they won't be giving excessive discounts as it won't be replaced and won't continue to be made, and there is reasonable demand to sell any outstanding stock (unlike the colt which they had to sell at $10k below RRP)
Can you imagine if they don't replace the Golf GTI in Aus what impact that will have on second hand Golf GTIs in a few years? The R32 IMO will hold up reasonably well now as it is the last model of golf we will ever get with a V6 in it.
Anyways, it is all speculation and to be honest I would be VERY surprised if it is not replaced.NickZ

A dealership also told me they will sell the Mk 6 Golf GTI at the same time as the other models, when I asked when they will start selling them in Aus. They are certainly not the most reliable source of information!Originally posted by pixl View PostDealership. What do you think wiping upto $3000 worth of "on road costs" is? It's a DISCOUNT.Originally posted by DeanB View PostI can't see them discounting. There are quite a few people on here that got substantial discounts on a new Gti.
By the way, mazda had to bring forward the release of the new Mazda 3 in Australia because they ran out of old model stock. That also in a very depressed car market. That would suggest that resale values on Mazda3s will be better than the segment average.

The on-road cost deals are usually in particular months across all cars. So no, it's not a discount, it's a sale, possibly even a 'stocktake sale'.Originally posted by pologti18t View PostWhat do you think wiping upto $3000 worth of "on road costs" is? It's a DISCOUNT.

The loss in money there is covered by the manufacturer, not the dealer so no dealer profits are lost.FOR SALE

Absolutely correct on both counts! Usually it's in December. VW aren't the greatest at advertising it. When I got my car (December 06), the deal was on all Jetta's, Polo's and Golf's except the Golf GTi (which was selling like hotcakes at the time).Originally posted by VW GTI View PostThe on-road cost deals are usually in particular months across all cars. Apparantly they finish the production of the Polo GTI at the end of May 2009 so I imagine we'll see the new GTI early next year perhaps late this year.APR V2 Tuned, APR Dogbone mount, APR R1 DV, K&N Panel Filter, SEAT Intake, Forge TIP & FSB, Bilstein & H&R, Whiteline RSB, Full Milltek 2.5" exhaust

I dont think some of you guys actually "get it". To the customer it's a discount as they pay less than the RRP+ORC price of the car. Discounts in the end have a negative effect on resale values.Originally posted by VW GTI View PostThe on-road cost deals are usually in particular months across all cars. You can dress it up as "Free on road costs" or 10% off RRP + ORC but it is still a discount.

And since when do you buy a car at RRP + ORC? It's called competition. I think the point of all this is that the Polo is not, has not, and will not be discounted to the extent that say the Colt was, which at one stage was selling at $20k drive away because no one wanted to buy it. That is over $10k below on road costs and RRP.
Maybe have a think about that before telling us we have no idea and are illogical.
End rant.NickZ
