TT brakes are 312mm-hence the caliper carrier is mounted further out.
TT pads are slightly larger as well.
Stock Polo is 288mm x 25mm as you say.
312's are either early TT or 2001-3 -ish Audi S3.
    Cheers

Also TT calipers - you have dozens of pad choices

      - Polo only a few choices

P.S. Stewey, this is a pretty common conversion.

I am not sure on your bleeding procedure & how you clamped off the lines when you swapped calipers. If you do it really quick or clamp off the lines a regular bleed is all that is required.

IF you lost more fluid, there is a chance you can get air in the ABS controller - this can then not be bled out in the normal manner - you need to bleed using a diagnostic tool following the ABS unit bleeding sequence (Vag Com will do the job). Its nice to use a pressure bleeder to assist here, but manual fill can also work (keep an eye on the fluid level).

I'm pretty positive from your symptoms that there is some air in the system somewhere.

        Hope this helps!

Sounds like my brakes before I had them bled by the pros. I upgraded to S3 312mm rotors with 4 piston alcon calipers. I didn't have to upgrade anything else.

Clamped the lines off and only lost very little fluid. I don't imagine we lost enough to drain the master cylinder any great amount.

Certainly, the pdeal feel is not one of air in the system. Been there, done that with old english cars (and drum brakes!) at home.

I'll continue soft-footing it about a little while longer, give the pads half a chance to get a good mating surface.

Cheers for the help once more

I'd get them pressure bled, and perhaps do a full fluid flush at the same time. After all, you updated the brakes for a reason. Best not to do just half the job

If you need VAG-COM let me know. Do you live on the flat or in the hills?

                  Flat as such, Oaklands Pk.

I took it for a 20 km drive last night, 100-20, back up to 100, down to 20 etc. Good fun, although the fuel consumption resembles that of a 200 LandCruiser.

                  Brakes feel much more positive
