polo and mk1 golf. I still wouldn't want to be in either car

That isn't exactly correct. Having a head-on between 2 cars both travelling at 110km/h is the same as crashing into a stationary, solid object (like a very solid wall or big tree) at 110km/h. This concept can be applied to the simple to understand example of a car travelling at 110km/h having a head-on with a stationary car. The stationary car will go backwards after impact, thus transferring kinetic energy and minimising deformation and g-force.Originally posted by DeanB View PostIf you hit another vehicle head-on at 110km/h (both of you travelling at 110km/h) and it's a direct head-on nose to nose. Like previously said it is like hitting something stationary at 220km/h
Back to the topic, I thought the perception that because a car is small then it is unsafe was essentially false. Numerous small cars have 5-star ratings whilst many larger cars are 4-stars or less. And then many 4WD's and other SUV's perceived to be safe by the public have a high centre-of-gravity, resulting in many roll-overs that carry a high rate of death.MY14.5 VW Polo 81tsi Comfortline - Candy White - Comfort Pack

how abt batman's car?Originally posted by pologti18t View Posta 110km/h impact into a wall is equivalent to two cars hitting head on at 110km/h EACH. No car will offer any significant chance of survival at those closing speeds.
hope everyone stay safe, and we will never find the answer to this thread.

Yea dude, gotta learn there is no humor unless its in the humor section.... We're all faster than Veyrons and have better crash ratings too!!Originally posted by Spec83 View PostI put that video up for a bit of a joke guys.... Steady on

I feel very safe indeed whether it is in the '98 Polo or my brother's '85 Mk2 Golf. These cars are very solidly built, indeed, plus they received v. good crashtest results. I do plan to hang on to them though and not to do the latter ;o)
Am always very careful when driving them.1985 GolfMk2 CL

Lol... I'm quite sure if you hit anything solid at 110km/h u would be f$%^&d no matter what you were driving!!!Originally posted by Ben_GTI View PostYea dude, gotta learn there is no humor unless its in the humor section.... We're all faster than Veyrons and have better crash ratings too!!
Bet the pog would get 5-Stars if it had a CA18
The only other airbag you could ask for in the pog would be a kneebag (as this appears the weak point in the crash testing)... With head (front / back), side (front) and twin front you are pretty well covered.Last edited by Spec83; 09-02-2009, 08:36 PM.

Here a top gear clip on NCAP ratings that gives a good idea that most 4WD's are actually worst off in a crash.

if its anything like my mk3 vr6, its gotta be good.
took a traffic light pole out of the ground, wrote the car off completely. i was able to get out and walk away-literally, because i hadnt brought my mobile phone and i needed to hitch a ride back home to get it to start cleaning up(i had managed to limp off to the side of the road and park it in a safe spot).
