  • Queensland Raceway - Trackdays

    Hi,

Queensland Raceway have regular saturday and wednesday sprints, I'm go to saturday sprints this year, first one 21st February.

Cost is $119 if prepaid plus a license. Day license is $20, annual is $55. An annual license is also good for Lake Side. You generally get 4 sessions of 5 hot laps, with a warm up and cool down lap. It's all timed, though is not head to head racing - I've never seen or heard of cars coming together, though have seen 2 or 3 come off the track.

Go here for more details - http://www.qldraceways.com.au/events/entry_forms.html

It's the most fun you can have in a car on your own Also free to come watch, great variety of cars out there.

Anyone else keen to participate? The more the merrier.

I posted here as I'm more interested in enticing polo drivers than all VW guys, though moderators feel free to move it if you prefer.

Mine is all that - 2yrs warranty left and stock. Cover plates, rego sticker etc. if VW are reading this, my car is a black porsche You certainly won't feel like a moped on the M1, you're classed with cars doing similar times. The Alfa Romeo club are regulars and I'd expect our cars to be a few seconds quicker, it ain't about the times put down.

Shaneth - I find QR fun for extracting incremental improvements, I've done 120+ laps out there and still find fractions of seconds by changing my lines slightly and braking markers. Certainly keen for lake side when it's on next - never done it as I'd sold my other car before it opened.

KI1IZ, I'll keep an eye for you if you do saturday sprints.

How badly would you rip up a set of almost new street tyres at one of these days?? It's the only thing stopping me from having my first crack

I've had a track day with around 20 hot laps. My tyres still haven't been rotated and they're still legal (with the exception of the front left shoulder) after 18000 kms.

So if you rotate before or after (or both if you can) then you will be fine.

I got 25,000 out of Yoko C-drive on my subaru with the above mentioned number of laps, couple of skid pans and a morgan park day. I've probably done more like 150laps... 7-8track days, 15-20 hotlaps each day...

Run low/mid 40 psi and it'll be minimal but worth every cent. That's done for safety (don't roll a tyre off the rim), but also to minimise wearing out the shoulders. Biggest secret to not waste em is to not overdrive the car/tyres. Keep it smooth and it's minimal.

Hmmm... I might have a crack at an upcomming lakeside event then... Ever since I saw Brocky, Johnson et al race there in the early 90's I have wanted to have a drive there

                        you've got 1/03, 5/04, 3/05, 31/5, 12/7, 2/8 etc etc.

March may be too soon to finance another day (but always easily persuaded if others are going to do it too), April may be a goer

Well, Alex (KI11Z) and I (Ibiza Cupra) will definitely be there. Can't wait.
BTW, entry fees have gone up considerably from last year from $99 to $189. The track (lakeside) has also just been upgraded along with some facilities. Now we get "carports". Not sure about this but this may be an option and if it is then it will be $40 cheaper if you sont want a carport, don't quote me on this though.
seangti; what times did you do at QR and with what car?

Mate after the email i got on friday i think i dont think this is the case. Its the same price for everyone.

What makes the rest of the entry fee difference at Lakeside is the $40 levy to help pay for the carports. We are building 100 carports so that everyone gets one.
The Lakeside Street and Open Sprint rounds don't cost more than the QR sprints when you consider we supply at least 25% more track time and lot more kilometres; 28.5 Vs 50 (or 38 Vs 62.5 if there are minimal recoveries) and guaranteed passenger runs at Lakeside at the end of the day. On $s per minute or $s per kilometer basis the Lakeside series actually cost less than the Ipswich series. Remember the Lakeside series are an all day affair with guaranteed passenger time afterwards and hopefully five runs because everyone stayed on the track.
                            Im very keen as well.

Ok, then. Thanks for clearing that up Shaneth.
What's the bet that this "levy" will be applied well after the carports are paid off.
