  • Air hoses in engine bay

A query for those more experienced with turbo cars than I am. What's the function of the two air hoses on the gearbox end of the engine - one running from the airbox to what appears to be a centrifugal pump housing under the inlet manifold and the other from this unit to near the diverter valve? I removed these hoses to make fitting the seat intake easier, and noticed they're o-ringed at each end. So is an airtight seal critical? There's a good view at http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ead.php?t=6160

    Thanks for any info.

i noticed those two hoses and wasn't game enough to touch them, wasn't sure what they are for. i installed my seat intake in absolute darkness in about 15mins... you don't need to pull anything off.

    p.s. your link doesn't work.

They are both for emissions. The one on the right from the air filter box is for cold starting to the air pump, and I am unsure of the one on the left, but both do not need to be removed for the fitment of the SEAT intake.
After my car had been repaired, my car had thrown a code as these hoses had been removed, and for some reason, had made my car go into a semi limp mode. All rectified now as the codes have been cleared.

If it's the two plastic hoses, one coming from the airbox to the aux. air pump & the other going from the pump to the pulse air valve, it should be for the exhaust air injection system for the pollution system.

If they're removed, blocked etc., the car will log fault's & should be oxy. sensor fault's running too rich.

Thanks for that. I should have said that I removed and relaced the hoses when putting in the SEAT bits...............................

Aux air pump , blows air over the lambda probes to clean and also force hot air onto the probe, thus probe efficiency early.
Codes galore with that one off
