  • 2006 build Polo GTI Stock Wheels Questions

Hi Guys, after a few searches I have found 2 different offsets for the stock Denver 16x6.5 wheels; either ET 42 or ET 35. This apparently depends on the manufacture date. Is this really the case???

Also I have read that the GTI has a wheel bore of 57 and the rims I am looking at have a bore of 56.1, is this a massive problem??

And can anyone please confirm the rim weight on it's own as well?

    Thanks,

    Anthony

i'm pretty sure you'll have to machine it out a bit, not sure of costings sorry.

Well, they won't go on unless you bore them out to 57.

Thanks to all I am wanting to go a little wider this time tyre wise. To a 215/40R17 and was wondering with either a 7 or 7.5" rim, what offsets you forum folk had success with no rubbing?

And yes I plan to also lowering the Pog with H&R springs as well (2.5cm)

              Thanks again

Which tyres do you plan to get? As far as I know, no decent performance tyres are made in that size?

I have a o8 model gti polo , I made the mistake of buying some second hand gti polo rims & tires for cheap, from a 06 model . And they come very close to the calipers on the front and did not fit comfortably, the back went on ok.
I should have looked into that first.

So what is the reason behind the different offsets from the early Polo to the newer model?

Are the hubs different or maybe the brake disc? I wonder if can convert mine to a 43 offset!

There are lots more wheel options due to the popularity of the Subaru which run a ~ 45 offset.

Well, of the notable brands (Michelin, Toyo, Bridgestone etc) none of their tyres are that size.

                        It's either 205/40 17, 215/45 17 or 205/45 17.

Feel free to correct me if you've found some.

Falken Avenis R-Spec and Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 I think.

Thank you jamesatfish for your info! On an 07 built polo it seems you need an offset of 32 and a 7.5" wide rim to fit a 215/40R17 tyre with no rubbing!

That being said is it safe to assume that on a 06 built polo I should go for 37 offset considering the 06 origional offset was 43 as opposed to 38 on the 07?
