Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • The perfect "Polo" ??!!

Audi has just announced the S1 -- 1.4 TFSI giving 150Kw and 300Nm, 7sp DSG...

...and the really sweet part -- it's AWD, with 60:40 rear bias...and Magnetic Ride

With UK pricing around STG25k, the Aus price, IF it gets here (doubtful) would be $55k +

Under the bonnet will be a development of the same supercharged and turbocharged 1.4-litre engine as the VW Polo GTi (Issue 1,044) and SEAT Ibiza Cupra. In those models, the unit produces 178bhp – but thanks to some upgrades and a tweak of the ECU, the tiny powerplant will produce in excess of 200bhp and 300Nm of torque.

Isnt that a mistake 1.4 turbocharged? Polo is the 1.8

$55K is for the Audi S1, the new Polo GTI will probably be around the $30-$35K mark .... there goes the 'sub $30K competitor'.

It's a shame that it looks like it will be so overpriced. $55k gets you into a Ralliart lancer (hell nearly gets you into an EvoX) with about $10k left over for mods. If they expect it to actually sell they'll have to drop the price a fair bit cause it's still a small car.
                  Cheers,

A ralliart lancer? lol Why would you buy that over this car? An Evo, sure.

Why would the price increase that dramatically?

The Peugeot 207 GT and 207 GTi for example managed to get cheaper then the equivalent 206 GTi and 206 GTi180 models?

Apparantley the next Fiesta ST (aka. XR4) with the 1.6 Turbo won't price-hike over the current 2.0 N/A model.

I hope they don't do any silly price hiking with the next Polo GTI, I have my sights set on an inexpensive hot-hatch with a 7-speed DSG gearbox... I can't describe the amount of awesome that car will be...

It is an Audi.... quality, styling and ride i'd imagine will be far superior to that of the Ralliart Lancer. Yes the lancer will out-power and out-corner the Audi, but at the end of the day it's a lancer with a turbo.

On another note, I wonder how the progress on the APR 1.4TFSI chip is going?

I just read what the article on the 'new generation' Polo GTI, it has the estimated price in GBP which worked out to about AUD$32,500. That's just what i read...

Think about it. $43k, AWD, DSG, 177kW and $10k to make it into a monster. It has alot of potential. Of course an Evo would be better but it would still be $5k ish more.

Anyway back on topic, my point was that you can get a whole lot more car for the same price. ATM you could get a bomodore SS ute (mate just got one brand new) for $34k drive away which leaves you $20k for mods (twin turbo kit is only about $12k installed.
                            Cheers,
