    and in conclusion....

i have a humble little polo diesel....

i bought it ex demo at 5000k's. at about 6200 i started running it to the snow..

now, i will not profess to be a fully sick bro about my driving habits, but im talking a melbourne->buller drive in around 2.5 hrs in the polo, where it would take around 3.25hrs in the discovery.

so, after two hundred kilometers of sitting at speeds between 95 and 180 km/h and taking into account the town of mansfield, i have a steep, gruelling, discovery-crippling 16km uphill to look forward to.

i took the polo up to buller ATLEAST 22-23 times this season, and as soon as i got to the bottom of the hill, i scream out loud in delight and FLOOR it. i overtook a vr6 [dont hack at me you vr owners, that was my first car, i love them, but i know the roads good, which was my only advantage i'll bet"], on the way up the hill, but bottom line?

me= run car hard for 200k's
after 200k's, attempt to destroy car for next16 k's uphill.

    polo? never missed a beat.

i fruickuing love my car. as slow etc around the city as it is.

oh, and for the record, mum hired a xr6 yesterday to go to sydney. to ANY poof who advocates chipped polo gti's for "not holding a candle to mid 90's 6-cylinder fords and holdens", and for those who say "polo tdi's are horribly slow"....

    a) lol@ you for not running your diesel car in properly, you KOOK
    b) my 40-70km/h onto the freeway time, was faster than that pos xr6 focaln
    c) i JAMMED that xr6 (last one, slightly restyled bodykit before the current same-car-460-mill-later-diff-bodykit) flocon. its NOT fast. its horrible. really quite slow. i was glad mum got the upgrade at europcar- safe, slow, heavy. NOT anything to pretend you're driving a weapon with...

and yet i felt like such a mediocre everyman in it- when i was driving it, i longed for some sense of individuality.... that, (individuality), is what makes us grin when we get in our pogs. nuff sed.

I have had my Pogo for 12 months, and done 27,376km befor my accident last week...In the first week of owning it I drove from Sydney to Darwin(just over 4,000km), and I have only had the A/C issue(dumped its gas, Faulty Evaporator and T/X Valve), and the worn inner B pillar trim, and the bad dealer tint which is getting sorted.
I love my car, I wash it every weekend, I service it myself, I modify it, I have Dragged it, and in the weekends I head off with a map and GPS in search of twisty mountain roads to throw it into. I DRIVE my car. I dont car about resale value, I care about how much fun I have in it.
I have read the problems and fixes, and I have taken notice of them, but I wouldn't let a few isolated problems scare me out of this car. I love it, and truly think you can do just about anything in it(although, I havn't broken it in yet).

excuse me for being presumptuous, but when the music volume dial gets twisted anti clockwise in favor of engine noise, roughly 300m before a big turn you're familiar with.... god damn, IT'S ON, yeah? just you and yourself, nothing else whatsoever?

          Ken oath man

I was wearing that grin when I drove it out of the dealership on the 4th of Jan last year, and I still have it now when I think about how much fun the mountains are west of Port Douglas....Ask Shaneth about how much I was drooling when he was in the car after going to Guy's workshop!!

          God i miss my car!!!!

I crashed my car on the 23rd...My fault, not alot of damage, but a holed radiator is keeping it from driving, and I won't have it back for a few weeks on account of the holliday period.
I live in Townsville, North QLD, but I am in Penrith, NSW, for holidays(now longer cos my eyes are painted on).

                it'll be back soon..

mate, dont want to be arsolisch or anything.... how did you crash?

just to let people know, i had a scary one coming off mtn freeway last weekend....

last corner (left hander before getting onto burwood hwy), come in wide, shallow, wide (good for me)...

come in hot to the onramp/ slowdown to get onto burwood hwy....

abs engages, front left hits pot hole and skips, front left skids on re-contact.

so naturally the "slight clockwise turn front-left-engage ever so slight ant clockwise in-turn" ensues, but still a heart-thumper.....

Funnily enough that's exactly what I did.

I wanted a second-hand sporty hatch so I looked at what were the absolute standout FWD two-door weapons for my budget. I could have had a high km Integra Type R ('99 DC2) or RenaultSport Clio 2.0 or any, and I mean ANY Peugeot 306 GTI-6.

I read loads about the GTI-6, downloaded dozens of road tests etc, looked at owner reviews and even joined the aussiefrogs French car enthusiast forum. As much as I wanted to love the car all the niggling faults (parts availability, electrics, interior, eats, cambelts etc) reported by GTI-6 owners really put me off. I talked to mechanics, mates and motoring journos and they all said the GTI-6 would be a weapon to drive, but that it would cost me dearly to maintain etc etc so I gave up on Peugeots...

And bought a low km MK4 GTI.

It's a very different car, but I'm happy with my decision and confident that it will fulfil my needs.

So you admit you're very close to crazy?

Sounds like you did considerably more research than just the forum before you came to the decision to not get a Frenchie.....

Well yeah but the forum didn't help.

But then again I did buy a Mk4 and they aren't exactly Corollas in terms of reliability!!!

the only real time you should be worried about your car on a forum is if repeated people keep posting with the words. customer service sucks and they ignored me!, or the ever popular" i will never deal with (input car company here) ever again". then you know its not an isolated incident. truth be told alot of car companys have problems with there cars accept they dont make it public, no one likes to publically anounce that they just spent 40 grand + on a lemon. i like to research what i buy and i did 6 months worth before buying my polo gti , and without trying to sound like a fanboy , the gripes ive heard have been close to non existant or just plain nit picking.
