i noticed a chip in my windscreen this morning.

Not happy Jan... Might just have to suck it up and buy the bra. Wonder if we could organise a group buy and get a discount?

We use a car bra for all country & Interstate trips on our Golf V. We paid the extra & got a white one so it doesn't stand out so much.

May not look good, but stops a lot of damage.

Car Bras are not that attractive and they rub your paint.

I had Venture Shield fitted to the front of my T4 after I had the bonnet resprayed. It is a clear film that protects the paint perfectly and you dont even know its there (if correctly applied) Cost me $450. Its a 3M product.

I wouldn't go the shield cos it looks like a paint separation line on the panels, and $450 is mega expensive too.

Robco's car bras use a felt inner layer to prevent scratches to the paint, and provide inner protection.

The offer is there people if you would like it.

This one is far cheaper at 20 bucks if you're just doing it for the odd road trip.

              Worked an absolute trick

                  That is pretty much it.

A car is meant to be used and using it will always lead to a bit of wear an tear.

The only way to keep it perfect is to not use it and that kind of defeats the purpose.

The odd stone chip etc doesn't make the car any less fun to drive, so I just don't worry about it.

I got this on my white one and and it's discoloured, I'll get it taken off one day. However he now uses a film that doesn't discolour on any colour car.

Did you not read the earlier bit of the thread. This IS the answer. They're changing their company name, but can find out everything here

I have this on mine and whilst my film is now 2.5-3 years old and very discoloured, you can now get a film that doesn't fade or discolour. Also if any colour other then white then you can hardly see the film on the car. When I got mine done, he did the front bar, 1/4 way up the bonnet, side mirror's and a strip along the rear bar. Think I paid bout $450.

I need to get mine removed as it does look awful now, depending on the cost if I get new film put back on.

I'd vote for the vinyl wrap, especially if the plan is to respray the bonnet or other parts in a different colour than the car was delivered in.

The front (actually, all of) my Polo is vinyl wrapped, and after about 18 months of driving including a fair bit of track work and a few 800m sprints down a gravel-covered airport runway, the vinyl has quite a few stone chips and marks, but nothing seems to have penetrated all the way through to the paintwork underneath.

Of course the other bonus is that you specify the colour of the wrap however you like and just peel it off to return the car to stock when it comes time to sell.

Mine has been on for about 2 years (could be more) and it has not allowed one stone chip. It was fitted around the grille and about 15cm down each side front. I dont think $450 is expensive.

                          Hi Fellas,

I was looking at getting a bonnet bra, but I guess, after some research it appears, though it does the job, it can also be a victim of its own success. (i.e creating swirls and light scratches if the stones are caught under the bra).

So, being the "21st Century" as many have said, I've been looking at vinyl protection. Does anyone know where in Sydney this can be done, or if you have had any experience with anyone reputable? Price range?

I'm getting the windows tinted this weekend, so I'll probably get that done along with the vinyl, if the tinter has an idea, which I assume they would.

Note: I know a car is used for driving and so it'll be considered wear and tear, and I have no problem with stone chips, but if I could reduce the carnage, then that would also be great /vinyl
