  • Question about Combi Instrument

    Hi All,
Finall the proud owner of a Polo GTI and have had a great weekend so far with it.
My only question at this stage is in regards to the "Combi Instrument"that sits between th rev counter and speedomter. In my owners manual it indicates that it should be able to display infomation such as current gear, temperarture etc. It also looked in the book that there was some sort of main menu that could be used in the combi-instrument??
Basically just wanted to know it it does display anything in this area that is used whilst you are driving.Otherwise it kind of looks weird being that it is rather large and is just blank whilst driving around, can anybody shed any light on how it is used and what can be displayed on it.

    thanks in adavance.

The ability to see those features on AU spec cars doesnt exist unfortunatley. We only get the basic fault light display.

wow thats really tight! i thought it would have more display functions on the gti's etc- its also a big blank on our basic model. we had an A3 with a very similar look and it comes up with all sorts of info-cool. then again it costs twice as much. and it compares to a golf.

i was also disappointed with the non remote central locking left out on the basic car - this is now addressed on my09 models. VW must have gone over the specs very carefully to save money all over the place with the polo.

passat seems to be almost the opposite: all sorts of goodies not found in similar priced cars. for example leather seats also includes heated front seats .
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

Surely it'd be a case of some software being loaded?

Assuming this is what you are talking about...

It'll take alot more than software to have that!

That's clever. Ho'd you do that? Is it linked to the CD player? Mine doesn't display the track names on the MFD, just the track number.

Not mine, I have a Polo as well. Random image I pulled from google.

My guess would be that the track names only display if you're playing an MP3 CD, as the CD player in the Polo will only display track names when playing MP3 files and not when playing a normal CD with CD text.

Then again, it could be another non-AUS feature!

When playing MP3s, the track name , artist etc. is displayed on the head unit. On the MFD, only the track number and file number are displayed. At least that's as far as I can tell. Maybe I haven't delved into too deeply and missed some swicth. Might try it on the way home tonight.

Mum's Eos has the MFD but I've not yet been able to pull up ID3 tags. I also haven't seen the compass in the upper left either. Considering the car's units are in miles, I'm going to assume this is yet another feature we don't get?
