  • Servicing Question

    Hi,
The GTI I am looking at purchasing looks to be in immaculate condition and well looked after .Since it is an 08 model it has plenty of warranty etc.My problem is that when I asked the seller if the first service had been done,he told me it hadn't.It has 18,000 kms on it so would I be right in assuming this fisrt service should have been done at 15,000.
I also want to know whether I arrnge to get the first service done if i buy it does it void the warrnty since the first service is being done a few thousand kms late? Does this also mean I will be up for the second service soon after I arrange this first one?
Any help guys would be much appreciated, great to see such a tight community of Polo lovers

Welcome to the forum, Verbal. Yes, you're right ... the first service should have been done at 15,000 and I would suggest the previous owner was lazy in not getting it done. No, it should not void your warranty being late (especially since you had no control over the matter). Second service (if memory serves) is about 30,000 ... or it might be 25,000, can't recall but I'd relax a bit over exact mileage on the clock and servicing requirements (they won't keep you in after school/work if your assignment is late).

    Cheers,
    Dave

Price will depend (to a certain extent) upon who your VW Agency is. Mine, in Brisbane, cost about $240 ... but I have heard of both more expensive & cheaper ... so it's really a case of 'How long is a piece of string?'

I am not sure how picky VW would be with their warranty, but I imagine you would want to get it done ASAP incase something happens - if you haven't done the service and something happens to your engine then you may be in trouble, but if you have done it, even if it is late you should be OK.

The cost in Sydney is $350 - $400 at a VW dealer, cheaper at an independent. I would knock that off his asking price too!

            Verbal,
the first service is due at 15,000 km or 12 months, so I would say that the owner has put on too many km's and not worries about getting the first service done.
Once you get the vehicle (if you get this one) take it in to a VW service centre and get the service done. If will not matter if you are over a few 1,000kms or a month or so out with the warranty. Before you do get this vehicle get it checked out by a qualified tech/mechanic for any faults or warranty issues from the last owner, you may be buying a lemon.
All services are at the 12 month period or 15,000kms, what ever is first. Major services are the second service (eg 30,000km or 24 month period) and this is normally the more expensive one (another $150 to $250 more).

Check out the cars log book.

Maybe he thought you meant the 7500 service which is not compulsory.
A lot of the dealers add this service to your display and service sticker
              which gives them more profit.

3K over due isn't going to kill your car or your warranty.

As posted, check your service book's & ask the dealer for some service history.

You never know. We get alot of customer's ask for an interm. service at approx 7.5K which isn't part of the service plan & sometimes not logged in the service book's, but will come up in the service history.

Service's are also every 15K or every year, which ever is first.
