Hey guys, just got my car APR'ed a coupla days ago and dean at volkspower told me that it does take about 100miles for the chip to deliver max power. Does he mean that its adapting to my driving style? i.e. if I'm driving like an old lady, its not going to deliver much more power? Should I be bringing up the revs frequently to get the most out of the chip?

I think the adaptive things is just part of the ECU should adapted to driving style and fuel changes apr'ed or not, so when you get it tuned it needs some time to change to the new parameters for each driving situation.Originally posted by Preen59It doesn't matter what car you drive.. ECU's in any car continuously adapt to your driving style. when you push the car hard, more air and fuel is required to keep up with your demands on the engine. if you consistenty drive like this, your ECU will learn to pump more fuel etc. through than that of a babied car. it does this so the engine is not straining under pressure.
this is why when you pick up a car off the showroom floor it is best to drive it hard from the start, so it will adapt to your style and perform to its peak. if you baby your car from the showroom for 1,000km's and then start 'booting' it, the ECU will not be used to this style of driving and problems can arise.
same goes with the APR chip, because it is an instant change to the setup of your ECU, it does not enable the settings to properly 'settle' in. after about 100km's (100 miles is a bit much), the new settings should be fully adapted to the ECU and the optimal air/fuel ratios and boost levels are reached.Last edited by RhysQ; 11-12-2008, 10:40 AM.

Brian@quattro is a super nice and very trustworthy guy.
The software loads in about half an hourbut I guess he'll have your car for half a day or so to fit in with other jobs...I got my DP and HFC booked for 1st week of Jan with Quattro...tick..tock..tick...

i don't appreciate you referring to my post as rubbish. if you KNOW the full truth otherwise, feel free to post it up! if not, just ask questions. i have been told this from several mechanics, one of them being my vw mechanic. also, when i went through my test driving stage of looking for my car, EVERY sales person told me to do the same thing.......must be rubbish!

read it again, i said problems can arise, not 'will'. two friends of mine a few years ago bought the same car (lancer ES) brand new from the showroom (on the same day - it was thier 18th b'day presents). one babied it for the first 1500kms and was laughing at the other who was just thrashing it everywhere from the get go.
he ended being the one who was laughing because as soon as the guy started driving hard....
A. the car could never keep up
B. it was regularly in with zupps (mitsubishi dealer here)
C. he sold it after a year because he could not stand it anymore
some of the problems from memory (this is 5 years ago now) were fuel injection failure, blown transmission, misfiring??
the guy who thrashed his car still owns it and has never had a problem with it, apart from having a smashed front end after running a pole over.
i understand these are not turbo VW's and i'm not one to just instantly 'believe what you hear', but i have heard it all before and to see it happen like that, why would i believe otherwise. i know it has only been one case but all my friends who have bought cars brand new from the showroom drive them hard at the start and not one has had a problem.

The story about your friends and their Lancers is purely heresay, and is in no way a proof of anything. There are lots of anecdotal stories about thrashing a car out of the showroom resulting in a better performing engine, but I've heard an equal number of stories where a car driven a little more sedately will still do over 300,000ks with no trouble. In my view, it's swings and roundabouts on that topic.sigpic

i don't know a shopping list of problems that may arise but i've been told by knowledgable people. i'm not a mechanic and it's never happened to me so i really don't know. i'm not trying to be a know-it-all, i was just posting what i've been told. if ted from down the road's brother-in-law's dog mum's owner's postman told him and i heard that way, i wouldn't believe it.
why would i bother lying about this sort of thing??
call it what you want but i imagine the mechanics i know know a lot more than you when it comes to this sort of thing.
