Intercooler water spray

hey all,

im really thinking of going WMI soon, it inject a mixture of water+Meth injected into the cylinders, reducing intake temps and it also stops detonation etc...

i rather do this before i go FMIC... its cheaper than fmic a well... summer is creeping in we not even up to 20 degrees C as yet and i can feel the heat soak since im running phase 2 map..

maybe the added weight of the water supply would offset any gain.

Isnt every 10 degrees cooler worth 1% horsepower? Unless your constantly spraying it wont cool that much. Its illegal for dragstrip too as it may wet the track.

Plus the underbonnet heat would heat the water, maybe you would spray hotter air than ambiant.

Im not talking about intercooler spray. Im talking about actual injection of water & meth into the cylinders via a pump that you switch on when needed, the nozzle fits into the ITB or anywhere else suitable. See link below

It's worth starting a new thread to discuss this one mate (so as to not confuse it with intercooler sprays). Would love to hear how it all goes.

Go get a water spray bottle, fill it with hot water.

Stand in front of an air conditioner on 30 degrees and spray the water (on a fine setting) a few inches in front of your face.

I bet you the water feels cool despite it being hot and the air hot.

I have no idea how much difference that would make to a car in terms of power though.

You made a comment about something you obviously know nothing about then when I explain it you get all pissy.

You'd be foolish to not upgrade the intercooler if heat really is an issue.

Sure, water spray is a fair bit cheaper, but its limited by the water you carry, and is a band aid fix to what is a cooling issue that should be addressed by other means.

Not to mention, you'd be nuts to go water instead of a cryo based system either way (I know many of the WRX guys go for the Cryo2)

FYI, any water spray kit would be next to useless of it just sprayed the water onto the intercooler in a stream. The thermodynamics of the process require the water to be an incredibly fine mist (even drops are too big, it needs to be pure mist) in order to cool effectively.

The point being made is the cooling effect gained when a fluid evaporates, as stated it is simple physics. If you get your hot cup of tea and atomise it into a fine mist in a cool air flow and spray it onto a hot suface where it evaporates, you will get a cooling effect. Obviously cooler water will give a greater cooling effect but within limits, even if the under bonnet temperature does warm the water up there will still be some cooling effect.

All I need to know is that it doesnt work very well.

This comes up in every turbo forum and gets shot down.

As said above, its a band aid fix.. you want cooler intake charge, get a better intercooler.
