i agree. i personally think even 17s look awkward UNLESS the car is lowered as well.

Hi guys, firstly a big thanks for everyone's fair opinions. I'm still wondering if I should go to larger wheels or not cause I like the take up acceleration on the car currently and don;t really want to sacrifice that. Secondly, I suppose I really don't mind the look of the stock wheels and prefer the ride comfort at the moment. Thirdly, I wouldn't know what to do with the stock wheels cause I don't have much space at home and quite frankly, I don't think the wheels would be easy to offload and sell due to its specific offset. Lastly, I just revisited the tyre place to see if its gonna fit on the polo and GOD DAMMIT!!! the damn thing won't fit due to the offset!!! *Sigh* So depressed right now cause been dreaming about how pretty it was gonna look on my trusty steed.

from my opinion, i wouldnt put 18s. too heavy for the car, unless you get lightweight rims. You might get better grip. so if you're after Aesthetic & style then 18s probably the best size for you IMO. I would definitely put 17s on my polo.

              yep... the dreaded offset trap..

went through this nightmare years ago with our new beetle. seller said the wheels would fit, checked with distributor.. "yep they will fit".. checked with manufacturer.. "definitely will fit"...
go to pick up car... new wheels not on it... seller says... "bloody things didn't fit.. wrong offset"
              arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!
took about 12 months but we finally found a set we wanted and got them to fit.

then you have to worry about centre caps and decals etc.....

you can still by 17' R lines from VW in the UK if you really want them. They're not cheap though...

You need someone over there to buy them then post them. I tried to buy wheels from VW UK and VW Germany and they both referred the request to VW Aus who said "we don't sell those, but how bout a **** wheel from our collection"

Wheels are wheels and connot be sold in Australia unless they comply with Australia Standards... if they fracture while driving you have legal recourse with the supplier... Sure they might weigh a little more, but if you want the real lightweight thing then pay the $$$

I was mearly posting them to give another option (that will fit) as the OP was intrested in 18" wheels...

                            to the op:

opinions are opinions- i can respect that you've asked everyone on here for their opinion, and they have liberally given them, however you also gotta take into account that most of the folks in here ended up with going with what THEY ALONE wanted, NOT the wheel that everyman said they should get.

i personally think 17's are too big on the pog- i will only end up getting 17's IF the wheel is gorgeous, suits perfectly, goes with with my to-be drop etc.

but you dont want to get a set of wheels and then regret it, saying "coulda, woulda, shoulda got the 18's" if that is what really makes you psyched.

go with what your heart says. after all, variety is the spice of dubbing.

Don't you love it when you can a set of four replica rims with tyres for not much more than what VW want for one original rim!
