If you burn your hand on engine components you probably shouldn't be sticking your hands in there. People need to start taking responsibility for hurting themselves.

Done right, you shouldn't spill oil. Degreaser and a hose is the best way to clean it up if you spill a bit, too.

What's the manufacture date on your Polo ? I picked up my GTI on the 18/11/08 from the dealer.

Mine has the engine cover and it was manufactured 29/07/08, compliance plate 11/08 ..... you can't have any/much newer !

Looked up the VIN Number details and it comes up as a MY2009 ... so I think your dealer has sold you a BS story about the 2009 model.

Contact VW Oz direct if your dealer is being stupid about it.

It is also for the noise suppression.

My Polo 09 TDI has engine cover. Surely there would be signs that there is meant to be one if it is missing - mount points. Mine simply clips on at the front - two 10mm plastic balls on brackets of front of engine clip into rubber sockets and a rubber grommet at the rear fit s plastic slot in the cover. Removal takes literally 3 seconds.

Is this true? I don't care how the engine looks but I'm all for a cooler engine bay.

It varies from engine to engine in severity, but yes. The LS1 V8 in the VTII-VZ Commodore's copped it really bad with the big plastic engine cover.

well took it off and suddenly the engine looks like a good old plain engine again...sheez that cover really had me fooled!!
Sounds a bit louder I'll give it a good go on a warm day.

my engine cover has been off for about nine months . ever since i put the BOV on it hasn't fit on properly so i just left it off. it's probably a good thing as the engine gets a lot more air flow now.

Mate, whether you want that engine cover on or off is YOUR decision not theirs...I reckon its rubbish. You paid for that cover so where is it? It definately makes the engine more pleasing to the eyes...especially if you ever come to selling the car. You should ph VW complaints and explain whats happened. 100% the dealers done something dodgy...how strange.

it could be human error and accidentally left off when they did a pre-sales service/engine check.

                              Here is what prob happened.

They took it off to do the pre-delivery checks and moved the car while it was off and reversed over it.
