Easy way to remove rear wheels from hub?

Hi all

Is there an easy trick for getting the rear wheels off the hub, held on by rust on the hub?

when I'm rotating tyres at home I have the car on trolley jack and a perfectly flat garage floor so a few well placed kicks on the tyre once all the bolts are out will do the job.

However kicking the tyre would be something I'd be reluctant to do if I'm changing tyres on the road with with the car on a scissor jack and non level ground...

I had the same issue. Rang vw assist. They said to put the nuts on till there tight and then backthem off a turn or 2 and then go and take a quick spin making sure you do a hard uturn. Then go back and it should be right.

I did this and worked fine but I'm not going to recomend it just in case something happens . But it's up to you.

Always leave one bolt loosely in the hub to stop the wheel from falling on the ground!!!
I hit the tyre with a long bit of pipe to jar them loose. And I clean up the hub with emery and apply a dab of grease there to stop further problems.

Spin the wheel and hit with the bolts loose and hit the wheel works for me everytime, hit the wheel from the inside though.

Even the best have bad days...I had Jim Richards and Barry Oliver borrow my 19mm socket and breaker bar at the 2006 Buller Sprint after they pulled into where we were sitting at one of the Hairpins before Mt Buller Village as both of their Rear wheels on hes 911 Turbo(can't remember if it was a 996 or 997) had come loose on the way up the hill! He had no idea why they were loose, and said he had torqued them up correctly before the start of the event.
I always found that Spray Penetrant like Cartrol DWF or CRC was good to loosen wheels off hubs(we get alot of rusting between wheels and hubs in the tropical climates).

Since the Polo wheels were powdercoated, they are difficult to remove as they are "stuck" on.

I found that by using apush & pull method on either the top/side/bottom of the tyre, it eventually frees itself.

I put a smear of grease around the centre hole to see if it will be easier next time.
