    Straight from the OpelAus forums

    "
In addition the early ones had Active head restraints. This feature seemingly disappeared around 03ish? With the update in 04 (projector headlights etc), you also lost Traction Control, but gained Brake Assist.

I had the update 04 Barina SRi and loved it. Main gripe was moaning/groaning brakes when in reverse, but that was about it. Nothing else. Ok power and ok handling "

    MY2004 Changes

    SRi
    Brake Assist
    New front and rear bumpers
    Follow me home headlamps
    Body coloured tailgate handle
    Body coloured side mouldings
Seatbelt: platinum is replacing shadow grey
    Addition: Carpet mats
    Deletion: Traction Control

"Traction control was removed from the vehicle when the newer ABS module was fitted. The newer module replaced traction control with 'Emergency Brake Assist' as is standard on the '4 SRI...."

Meh, I'm sticking to my previous statement...The T/C light on the dash sold it for me, but then again, maybe mine was just a freak of nature...

Mine must have been a freak of nature that had the T/C light that blinked at me when I broke traction then cut the power, and the ESP light must have been a figment of my imagination that light up on the Dash Board every time I started my car...My eyes must be painted on...

not unheard of with imported models: maybe the factory made a batch with extras on it and they wanted to get rid of them? ESP on models around 2004 is pretty rare unless you're talking top of the range models.

NO ESP but bought a Polo anyway

Well, after much research, i decided the ESP on most of these small cars limits your choice and unless youre happy with a Getz its hard to find demos etc under 20k.

So the shortlist became Polo, Yaris, Mazda2 & Suzuki Swift. All have relatively high safety scores ( Yaris is highest but no ESP available)

Today saw a dealer ad. for a drive away manual polo 1.4 and went to have a look. The car in question didn't have ABS, but they had a nice auto ...

October 2007, silver, 16k, auto (all of which have ABS apparently) , safety pack (total 6 airbags )..... paid $16500.00. They had advertised it for 18,888.00 and we offered 16250 and actually walked away and he rang later.

The 1.4 did struggle a little with the 4 sp. auto but as I said i wanted it to be a little gutless....

So my son will get a really good Chrissy Present !

The non negotiable items for this are: Auto , ABS Brakes, 2+ front Airbags, stability control ( ESP).

Other than that i want it as cheap and gutless as possible. Up to 4 years old is ok.

Can anyone tell me when Polo's started with ESP? Maybe was it an option on some earlier models?

Any help ( even alternative brand options ) much appreciated.
Our 2003 Polo, 1.4L, 55kw, has all except ESP....

You'll be looking at Hyundai Getz, i30... Barina etc.
2008 Polos can be ordered with ESP.

The auto wouldn't pull a drunken sailor off your sister, however, they can be quite lively, they just need to be driven a little differently.
