  • took my car in for warranty issues

    Hi guys,

I took my car back to the dealership yesterday to go it fixed. for: Dash rattles, Rear spoiler

I got the car back yesterday, before I hand in my car I checked on the Fuel remaining, says 50km. then when i got it, 10km (also the average fuel consumption in MODE 2 says 10+L/100km). They must've driven my car like crazy! Before I gave the car to the dealer, average fuel consumption was 8.5L now 10? (im guessing they reset the Average fuel consumption, BUT WHY!?!?!)WTF?!

They played the headunit system as well
(they said they took the car into the VW panel beater, no idea where that is! but I thought they would put the car in the back of the truck and take it to the panel)
anyway...what do you guys all think? I'm going to give them a call, to resolve this issue.

        Well..

        Very hard to say...

VW panal beaters are just some independent smash repair they use to go, and it could be 30km away (in my case)... ANd they are not going to tow you car there...

I have my door fix under warranty (not fixed anyway...) and the fuel ave go from 7.2l/100km to 9.5l/100km, i doubt how they treat my car but the service manager just said he stuck in the traffic, hence the high feul consumption.

        Whatever...

Just pretend you dont know anything about it to make yourself feel better mate...

          thanks guys!

i should've planted a scangaugeII under the dash...LOL. (but then again they took the dash out, from my understanding).

I just gave the dearler a called, they told me "he took the car for a drive and he was satisfied with the result"

told him the noise is NOW coming from the left and its even louder! so annoying! Even my old Toyota Echo it was a "REPAIRABLE WRITE-OFF" and it makes this type of noise from the dash LOL. CRAP! i tell u having the car 2.5 months and started making noises.

When they cold start the car, move it around the workshop, as much in reverse as forwards, the fuel consumption calculations get seriously screwed, and even more so if the car is new and has very low mileage (or is that kilometerage these days). Add a trip to the panel shop where the same is repeated, and allow the mechanic to try and create the dash rattles you are complaining about means he won't drive like a Sunday driver either.

Going from 50k remaining to 10k remaining in the tank means you are nearly empty, and the above will be even more dramatic than if the car was full of fuel.

Relax, you haven't been screwed with - fill it up, go on a freeway cruise for 20 or 30k, and your figures will return to normal.

              hahaha...^ yeah im all chilled!

but seriously they must've flogged my car to n from workshop! my ave fuel consum jumped from 8-10L (and this was in mode 2)
              ----------------------

well i just got back from the dealer, told the guy about the noise he even drove the car in the car yard (back n foward). it reminds me back of my old Toyota Echo 2003!

So taking my car back to the dealer for the dash in 2wks time. I just hope they would fix the WHOLE dash problems. I want to hear "thumping" sound NOT plastic sound (being strectch,push,bend,etc..)

If the place they were talking it to was 10 - 15 ks away ... and in heavy traffic, there's every chance you average would have gone up to 10. On the other hand ... they may have flogged it ... but nothing you can do will prove that. Move on.

I wouldnt let my car get down to 50kms to empty.
If customers drop there cars in here for rattles ect with very low fuel then I usually dont roadtest for noises as it can take a fair few drives to find them sometimes.
I have had a few that have run out of fuel on road tests over the years. I lock them up and either walk or taxi back to work. Write up the bill, ring them and give them the option of paying $50 for me to go and get $10 worth of fuel to retrieve the car or allow them the honour of getting fuel themselves!
We in the trade seem to get a lot of flack but there is always 2 sides to the story.

when we bought our polo they trucked it out to get the window tint done...
                          was very surprised.

Mate, to be honest, ignore the noise and drive it as it is...

Therefore, they cant flog ur car...

                            Thats what i do....

i have rattle noise + door hinge problem + window problem, and my car is 5 months old soon!

Before my Gti I signed up for a second-hand '05 Accord for the missus from the car dealer on the Friday. Went to pick it up on the Monday...between Friday and Monday it had done 1200km. Sales guy said one of the other sales guy took it over the weekend down south (Espreance). I said this aint now the car I signed up for and tore up the contract..the refused to accept and insisted they'd take me to court if I didn't buy the car as per the contract...."See you there" I said......nothing happened.
