how did Clarkson describe the current Polo GTI? .."the spiritual sucessor to the original Golf GTI". think he meant it wasn't bloated, slow and universally dismissed as the 'non-GTI' - the mk4 GTI. yep, piece of motoring history, even a set of 19" rims won't rectify that.

the 306 left it for dead in that vid, the best Clarkson could say about the mk4 was it was 'practical' - how exciting!

The Polo is good cause of its similarities to the original hot hatch the Golf GTI with its handling, light weight and power.

No, it's massive compared to what it was. The Polo GTI is a small car, even compared to some of the other small hatches. Just like the Golf was once upon a time.

True the Golf has grown in size and power yet so has the Polo but not as much as the Golf though.

It just shows the market to this day, all cars from there predessosors have grown in size, and when you factor in gismos and gadgets aswell and the safety of todays cars compared to old, you gotta give to take somewhere.
