  • APR Program.... + Downpipe

    Hi,

I have a Polo with a APR program tune.

I wanted to fit a Downpipe of 2.5 inches.

Do I need to get a re-tune if I was to have the downpipe fitted by my local exhaust shop...

Or does the APR program learn and adjust to the downpipe..

I have the APR downpipe and tune. When they installed it I got a free update to the program due to the high-flow cat. The air does not heat up as quickly due to the free flowing cat and because of this would throw errors. The software adjustment is to avoid the warning lights.

With another downpipe, depending on the cat, you might need an update to the software.

What if you were to get say a milltek downpipe and cat? Is there a risk of error codes? Or does the is the APR cat a different type?

No idea what the Milltek system is, but the APR is a metal high flow cat that flows 40% better than stock. Which leads to cooler air and the ECU thinking there is an exhaust leak.

Grant, i'd be confident in saying the Milltek system would need much the same software upgrade.

Sam, IMO Milltek is probably the best, if not one of the best exhaust brands on the market. have a look at a few youtube vids of VW's with the Milltek systems. off the chain!!

Yeah, my favourite video is the supercharged R32 with Milltek exhaust

I wouldn't say it definitely would need the software, Guy was going to make the downpipe with a ceramic cat that wasn't as high flowing and could be run on stock (or any chipped) software. The overwhelming response was the higher flowing cat that could only be done with chipped software (or at least modified).

You'd have to ask Milltek what cat they use (or try it out for yourself).

are these software updates an easy thing? would an exhaust shop be able to do it? or do need your APR/GIAC/REVO dealer to do it?

Pretty certian you have to have the APR/GIAC/REVO dealer to do it...some one correct me if I'm wrong.

btw, for anyone interested. milltek is currently inthe process of developing an exhaust for the polo gti, to be available in november.

the current exhaust is for the seat ibiza (that shares the same engine and floor plan) and is about 4 inches too long as it suits the ibiza bumper

All I know is the APR update is free with the downpipe, so it was done by the APR dealer.

Not trying to pick a bone or anything, but randomly, the importer of milltek came into the shop last night where I am working part time (He was wearing the milltek shirt, and I asked him and he said he was. He has no reason to lie).. Anyway, He told me that Milltek is average, and not the money it is said to be. He told me all his cars use some other brand(forgot the name)...

                      Just some food for thought..

Adam, I saw a lot of Milltek when I was in the UK recently, and certainly they were not what they used to be. To the best of my knowledge - the Milltek importer (WAS) Eurocardriver went bust & I think there is 3 or for different people importing them into the country.

so, milltek is not as good as they used to be...

in what way? performance or quality?

In that case, what other brand do exhaust system for polo gti?

quality.... - but don't take my word for it - get one & stick it next to other systems & you will see.
