Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Cigarett Lighter Power

    hi guys im having trouble with my cigarette lighter power. its a 07 polo gti. It wont power on my GPS or phone charger. ive checked the fuses in the engine bay near battery and they are all good. i tried turning on the engine and turning the key over to accessory. still no good. i turn on the headlights and the light in the cigarette lighter area "lights up red" but no power?

    any solution? any fuses in different areas i havnt looked at? i mite have to take it back to the dealership

    Fuse area on the drivers end of the dash. I imagine it would be in the manual.

    This is a left hand drive illustration, but you get the idea;

      Mate if you have checked the fuse and find its ok thenwhat is wrong there is poor connection. Remove the fuse for this before you do the following. You will see to tabs on the cig lighter socket. Bend them out slightly and refit fuse and see wht you get mate. Common , did this on MANY new cars when cig lighter failed to work. By the way the light in the socket is fed from elswhere

        Yes, I had this problem from new, and was totally fooled by the light. Wondered why the phone got flatter It was the fuse in the door panel, in my case

          My cigarette lighter works but it doesn't always light up at night. Seems like a loose wire or something - anyone else had this?
