  • Where to for CV Boot?

Guys, my right hand inner CV boot has a split in it. My usual mechanic is struggling to source a replacement here in NZ. Any suggestions, even from across the ditch, or I'll order one from the UK if I need to. GTI model. Thanks!

Apparently they don't have one in the country. And the mechanic came away unsure as to whether he was going to be able to get a replacement boot by itself or whether it was part of a larger kit. I know when I lived on the UK, boots weren't really something they did...ie let's just sell you a whole half shaft with both CVs on it.

My mechanic recently had to get one from Germany.

I've laways taken my driveshafts to a local CV/driveshaft specialist. Its never been a drama other than him asking if I wanted a genuine boot or an aftermarket. I'v e run aftermearket ones across two cars for a total of about 120,000km in 5 years and never had a problem with those.

Easy to get a generic one from a driveshaft place. Just need the dimensions. I have paid as little as a tenner for polo boots that way.

Thanks guys. I don't think we have such a specialist in my small town. I'll get under the car and try do a measure up. Plus I'll go to vw myself and see what they can tell me.

Tardy reply, but got what I needed from VW NZ in the end, about 60 bucks. There was some story about there being a hold on the kits for bit due to contamination...not sure if there's any truth to it, but might explain the difficulty in getting one initially.
