Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • It won't blitz the apr tune or something weird like that will it?

Also, had anyone managed to get VTUNE to work on a polo? There is some stuff from 2010 on the forums that said you can't, just wondering whether that is still the case

    • Lemmiwinks should read the ECU's basic blocks. It won't be able to read the APR tunes maps or anything like that though. What are you trying to do with lemmiwinks?

      • Sorry just saw your last reply. No from what I can gather lemmiwinks will look at a different part of ECU to where your APR tune resides. But you can definitely change "macro" parameters that will affect how the car runs. There is a massive sea of BS out there about how you can do this and that with lemmiwinks. You'll read 5 peoples takes on how to 'tune' with it and they'll all be different. Its definitely good in my experience for tweaking idle adjust and increasing loads enrichment though.

The changes with unisettings and lemmiwinks are saved in the immo eeprom.

          • Finally tried lemmiwinks with a serial port - USB emulator, and it seems to have worked. Now will increasing deccel enrichment cause more exhaust pops??

            Comment

            • I've not done that one myself but vortex peoples say it will. Going for the AMG45 effect are we? Increasing loads enrichment needs jumps of like 10%+ to really. This will be a bit different for sure but bung in a decent say 20% change and take it for a quick run. Not sure if plug/o2 sensor/cat fouling could happen though if you go overboard.

              • Big pop today and I only added 5% to deccel enrichment. I'm a sucker for theatrics

                • I've heard of "crackle and pop" tunes. No sh#t they actually call it that. You just got it for free! ha ha maybe don't do 20% then.

                  • Anyone tried adding timing on APR v2?

                        • I don't think APR is a tune where you are expected to fine tune timing like say Custom Code phase 2+. It could be sailing pretty close to the wind already. I'd be cautious doing that and definitely wouldn't do it without logging timing pull.

                            • I'm mostly there just have the stock cat still in place. Didn't add nearly as much timing though, 1.5 deg only. Seems to have made a big diff although the temps dropping to single digits might have helped!
