  • Sump plug 1.9TDI

I’m trying to get an oil change done this weekend and read a few forum threads about stripped sump plug threads and leaks due to sump plugs not being replaced at oil change time.

I can’t find a dealership parts dept open today and repco here in Newcastle list a ‘Universal’ 14mm x 1.5 pitch plug for this vehicle but it’s only 16mm long vs 22mm for the OEM part.

Do I have any other options or should I wait until Monday and get one from the dealership?

should be golden with that mate. i never used to bother with a torque wrench but i have started to use one these days. i must be getting old and cautious...

30 NM / 22 ft/lbs is the torque setting for the sump plug according to google. using the incorrect torque is more likely to strip threads than than an old bolt i would think. do it tight by hand before you get a wrench on it, less chance of cross threading it that way...
