Looking at a Polo TDI

oooh that sounds good- see, the gti suspension being slightly lower (15mm lower than standard, i think?), and slightly stiffer, would be a DREAM on my tdi- that way, i'd get better ride and handling, but it would still be forgiving enough on the crappy road to buller, and still high enough for me to fit wheel chains on when its snowing.
do you reckon a place like volkspower would be able to source ex-gti parts?
or does alot of trading of this stuff go on in these forums?

It... needs it... badly. Do it, do it, do it! The rear discs are shared with the Polo GTI, but the Polo's fronts are 30mm smaller. The 14x6 wheels and 185/60 R14 economy tyres are shocking, some slower profile, better quality rubber (Bridgestone Adrenalines or Michelin Pilot Sports or something) would do it a world of good. Its also super soft body-roll machine, so get the suspension too.Originally posted by mr_walker View PostFunny you should mention this. I picked up the Polo today, and already have an option to buy a used set of GTI wheels, springs, shocks and front brakes.
What's the general opinion about fitting this gear to a TDI? Reckon it will improve the ride very much?
I'm a bit nervous about modding anything other than the wheels in the remaining warranty period.
Cheers,
Walker
I've tried to keep up with a stock Polo GTI in mine around twisties where the GTI can't use its extremley significant power and acceleration advantage to get away, and couldn't get anywhere near him. A friend's Fiesta LX 1.6 automatic was on my tail the entire way, only staying behind because I knew the road better. The Polo TDI stock fails epically at handling.2008 Volkswagen Polo 1.9 TDI

It'd have to be a good price - don't know what standard Polo suspension is like but IMHO the GTI suspension is a little dissapointing (for a hot hatch/performance car).Originally posted by Buller_Scott View Postoooh that sounds good- see, the gti suspension being slightly lower (15mm lower than standard, i think?), and slightly stiffer, would be a DREAM on my tdi- that way, i'd get better ride and handling, but it would still be forgiving enough on the crappy road to buller, and still high enough for me to fit wheel chains on when its snowing.

If you could get GTI bits for a couple of hundred then great, but if you can come up with enough for Koni's, Bilsteins, KW's etc. that'd be the way I'd go (and will eventually).Last edited by PeterHBne; 29-08-2008, 10:56 AM.

Not looking at a TDI any more ... bought it. Not thinking about the GTI parts ... got them too! Thread continues over here.
Thanks to everyone for convincing me to take this leap of faith
