  • Car Back for 1 day

Finally got my car back from agents, my joy lasted one day, then same problem again. I've had my car 3 days in the last month.

Since new it has had a fault - EPC & ESP light comes on, engine kills power. Usually happens when I overtake changing from 4th - 5th gear. A bit dangerous, seeing as the GTi is made for overtaking.

VW agents have no clue what to do, they have replaced pedal assembly, throttle control, both cam sensors and checked the wiring.

Been going on for 1year already, problem comes up at leats once a month, I've had enough.

Negotiated a deal for a new GTi, hopefully take delivery on Monday

The older turbo nissans had a similar fault (silvia's, skylines) and it was the air flow meter either being faulty or faulty wiring to it. Could be something to bring up with them (if they haven't checked it already). Apart from that
    Cheers,

    John

Are you actually paying for the new GTI?

You would think a misbehaving ESP/TC would be due to some part of the sensors (ABS) rather than the engine ancillaries.

it is almost impossible for a dealer to replace your car with a new car...

Car to elaborate? I'm sure people have had this done with VW's ... think I may have read someone over at GolfMKV getting a new Golf GTI. The dealer probably can't, but VW can.

Unfortunately not so lucky, after much hassle I managed to get them to take back old one and settle HP with bank. The new one I have to purchase outright with a decent discount.

Heard via the grape vine that the fault is due to me "spinning the wheels". Apparently this causes all sorts of major probs

                  Original conti,s gave me 46000km!!!

I'm sorry but that to me wouldn't be acceptable, if there is a technical fault within warranty they either fix it or replace the car, otherwise what's the point of buying a new car with warranty. You might not be blessed with dealers where you are, but if you have the chance I'd be getting a different opinion or be going to VW directly.

Just my thoughts, you buy a car for x price, problems that stop your car from working daily should be fixed as part of warranty. You now have to pay for a second car, because VW can't fix the problem? That's not right.

Agree 100% with floody. Also give the forum a heads up so no one buys this lemon...

The again he did alot of Kms (46K km + ) in a "faulty" car. They are hardly likely to replace the vehicle at that age/kms.

Well he does say it's been going on for a year.

How long after buying it did the problems start?

If you don't mind me asking, have you at least spoken to a lawyer about your situation?

Problem started at about 10 000km mark. Car is siting on 48000 now, quite a bit of km's, got it new in April 2007.

The dealership & VW insists that they can trace and fix fault, Maybe 9th time lucky!!!. Problem usually occurs when I am overtaking, kinda dangerous so I've reached the point where I've got no faith in them at all, just want a reliable, safe car now .

Have consulted a lawyer, by the time anything happens it is 6 months down the line. I was looking at replacing the car due to high mileage by Feb next year, so I just need to shift plans forward.

****ty situation, but at least I get a new GTi.
