  • Definitive answer on wheels sizes?

    Hi all,

I'm a bit confused my POLO GTi wheels are 16" x 6.5" with an ET43 figure which I believe is the offest (please correct me if I'm wrong.) Stud pattern 5 x 100. I am after a set of OZ Superturissmos or Ultraleggras.
    I'd Like to go 17" x 7" or 17" x 7.5".
If this ET43 figure is the offset? is it 43mm?? If not what is the conversation?
The Superturissmos I have been quoted have a offset figure of 48mm is this therefore and ET48?? Will it fit?
Thanks dubbers, I just want to get this right, hassle free if possible.
Also been told any wheel that fits the Subaru WRX will fit the POLO Gti?

    Thanks in advance

I'm interested to know too. I know the stud pattern on the Subi's is the same but unsure about the offset. Just for the heck of it I was going to try my mate's spare set of liberty wheels to see if they fit (opens up a whole new world of possibilities for rim choice).
    Cheers,

    John

ET is Einpresstiefe (Insertion depth)... polo gti wheels have either ET38 or ET43 depending on when yours was made. you don't need the exact offset as the originals, but its best to stay close to it to avoid scubbing and also i think to clear your brakes.

the wheels i have now are ET32, which means they protrude out further, which looks great. but increases the risk of scrubbing over harsh bumbs

          Grant,

Is the ET value in millimetres? I can only assume so?

          Cheers mate

Grant no, only 48mm, guess I'll try to get it as close to 43mm as I can. I'll see what other options are available.

              Cheers

if you go wider then the same offset will have more poke

i am confused....so the smaller the offset, the more the wheels stick out??

correct. its measured from the centre of the wheel. so if theres less offset it means the hub mounting face is further in, pushing the wheels out more.

ahh, but it's not directly proportional.. in fact, keeping the same offset whilst increasing the wheel width increases the amount of poke on the inside, as in, it reduces the clearance toward the suspension strut

Ah so the definitive answer is.
If my current 16 x 6.5 with a 43mm ET are replaced with a 17 x 7 with ET48mm, my wheel would poke out 5mm from the original wheels? Which would not be a problem?
