Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Gearbox recall (35A7) - which VINs are affected?

Does anyone know? example production dates, etc.

Apparently mine is not under recall... in NZ. They don't know anything about it. Checked on computer with my VIN, nothing comes out!

06 Golf GTI - Bluefin Stage 1 blacked out with ED30 theme, leather, xenon, etc.

Yes. I got my caddy done a few months ago. Crunching 2nd gear..

        It's just an oil change.

If this helps, my car was a March 07 build and came under the recall.

Mine was delivered and registered in Feb 06 NZ.

Meaning probably Dec 05 or Jan 06 car. One of the earlier GTIs. No crunching here. Just bit of whining from diff or bearing.

this gearbox recall is abit werid. i called my dealer (denlo) and they said that there is nothing to do with the polo. it's all just for the caddy. I asked them what oil should the gearbox uses, and they say its synthetic.

i get occasional crunches between second and third, and putting it in reverse....

Are these crunches audible?? Can you actually hear it crunching if your stereo is turned down.. or more of a crunch that you feel through the gear stick when selecting gears??

Lol. Denlo. Says it all really

I suggest that you do a search on Denlo, or Koz's posts, to see what Denlo did for his gearbox change.

FYI, they are the ones that did the gearbox oil change in my Polo, despite telling me it was an ECU upgrade. Maybe I will get it checked out incase they put babyoil in my gearbox

I get the ones in reverse too, double-checking that the clutch is ALL the way in etc - which it usually is... was wondering about that!!

As well as the occasional 2nd crunch at high rpm.

Might call this week too to investigate. Will go thru Austral VW in Brisbane.

I doubt reverse has a syncro... will crunch if your rolling / above idle speeds very easily... like any most gearboxes i believe.

I know some car have them, but seems like a waste... polo prob not. Haven't really tried popping into reverse at 2k revs so i couldn't be sure.

                        Wouldn't recommend trying it either.
