  • Hi Newbie from Scotland with a 06 GTI

    Hi all,

Nice sight. Just had a look at a few pictures and some of the cars a very nice.
I was just looking for a bit of advice on a few things,
Firstly I am hoping to up the power of the car to around 200bhp any one recommend any mods?
Anyone recommend a decent tyre for wet and dry conditions (remember Scotland is bloody freezing!)

Thanks for your time and any advice

    Steve

Hey man, welcome to the forum. There are heaps of things you can do to your Polo GTI first up, and its all up to you and how much cash you want to spend and when. Alot of the guys have gone with an ECU tune straight up(either APR, GIAC, Ottinger or REVO), or you can go the suspension or intake route straight up. There are alot of products out there for the Polo, and there are plenty of opinions out there about them.
The best thing to check out first is the SEARCH function, and the Polo FAQ Sticky on the main page of the Polo Forum.

          hey there and welcome,

the first option people on this site tend to go with is the ECU tune as mentioned above. and the brands already mentioned seem to be the favourite. but please please please do not ask which brand is the best...it will only start a war .

my car just has the APR ECU tune and i dyno'd my car on saturday at 123.8kW at the wheels which works out to about 197.5 bhp if my calculations are correct.

an ECU tune costs us about 690-930 GBP. i'm not sure about prices your way o/seas though, could possibly be cheaper as there is a much bigger market for VW's.

best of luck with your car, make sure you keep us posted on what you decide.

          Cheers,
          Rhys

Welcome to the forum, Steve. Great lil' car you've got there and such a gem to mod. I think Rhys [-Polo GTI-] has nailed the 1st main mod that will push your hp a lot closer to your intended target (the chip) and, using the search function in here should help outline other items (Front Mounted Intercooler (FMIC), Down pipe, etc) that will help you reach the magic 200hp figure.

Enjoy your car and the forum.
