Front End tramping

I just took the car out for a drive and under hard acceleration through 1st and 2nd gear the front end of my car bounces/shudders as though its on a trampoline.

I doesn't happen very often in the dry but in the wet it is really bad. Does any one else have this problem? Is there a way to stop it happening (apart front using less throttle) i.e different suspension etc?

Hmm.. I also have this problem. I have the engine mount, isn't chipped, and am running on conti's, and I still have this problem in the wet, very reproducible at around 4k rpm. I guess either ease off the throttle or get more grippy tyres? Turning off the ESP helps a little...

I have got it occasionally, but only on really hard launches. I have found that throttle manipulation really helps, and just finding the right technique that suits you. I have the APR torque arm insert fitted, but it still axle tramps occasionally.

majority of FWD cars are gonna struggle in the wet under hard accelaration, especially through 1st and 2nd gears. my first car (33kW holden barina! ) even struggled in the wet. the only thing i can suggest is ease off gas until you upgrade tyres and mount inserts.

once i got my new tyres shuddering decreased so much to the point where there is none in the dry but then wet is a different story.

have not got the mount inserts but have heard nothing but good reports so that is my next mod.

do you get the really loud banging noise coming from somewhere in the rear end? .....that was the worst part of it.

It's mainly due to your soft control arm bushes.

What happens is, you launch, the wheels wind themselves forward in the arch, flexing the bushes. The bushes squash up, get harder, then the tires break traction and the bushes shove the control arm back to the centre.

You can fix it by changing to a harder set of bushes, like Nolathane or Prothane. But this will be at the cost of ride quality and they may also be noisy.
