  • 2016 Polo GTI vs Audi A1 S-Line

Hopefully looking to purchase a 2016 Polo GTI soon but won't be able to test drive one as there are no demo's here in Hobart. I did however get to test drive a demo Audi A1 S-Line which allayed all my concerns about a car of that size feeling to small and feeling too busy/bumpy and sold me on the Polo.

I appreciate they have the same engine and gearbox but just interested if anyone has had the opportunity to drive both to see how they compare behind the wheel. My feelings are that the trick sport select suspension of the polo would give it the edge.

Hey 42degrees - I think your assessment is pretty fair.

I have a highly modded 2014 A1 Sport and at the time the performance was effectively the same but I hated the Polo interior. So I admittedly paid a lot for a nice interior in a micro car, and however much you ascribe to the '4-ring tax'. No regrets though.

If I were shopping today? The adaptive suspension is a big perk. And I can't believe Audi have let them get so far ahead in that aspect.
I would take the adaptive over my coil overs for sure. Peak performance might not measure up - it's hard to tell. But switching back to comfort setting on a crap road or the commute to work would be worth it. Mine is pretty stiff for an Audi now, all day, every day lol.

Having two faced suspension definitely makes pocket rockets more attractive. But still I am really impressed with how much better dampening has got. The audi I drove was very livable with as a daily driver and the wife was super happy with the ride. Not the same story for the Megane RS we hired as within minutes she wanted to swap it for something more comfy to head down the great ocean road in.
