  • Need Help!! Bouncy ride after installing KW street comfort in Polo 6 C 77 TDi (1.5)

    Hi,

Installed KW street comfort in my Polo 6C 77 TDI 2 days ago. The installation workshop guys don't have any clue about adjusting the damping and it was installed without chaging the damper setting from stock. Car's ride is very bouncy now and there is rear suspension movement even on smooth roads.

So what is procedure for adjusting the front and rear damping? Do I need to remove both front and rear shocks?
What is the KW recommended specification? It would be very helpful if some one can post the images and videos of installation

    Thanks

Having an inexperienced workshop install suspension components is asking for trouble. Lowering reduces the available travel so the first question is did they trim the bump stops accordingly? From memory the diesel engine and transmission is somewhat heavier than the equivalent petrol, were they specific TDi lowering springs? Next question, what is the resulting ride height (centre of wheel to guard is the common measurement)? Is it within the spring suppliers spec?

    Cheers

I just replied to your private message without reading here what your issue is exactly. I have my KW SC dampers set 2 clicks away from soft because I found this helped the suspension smooth out harsh potholes, manhole covers that protrude etc. It does make the car a LITTLE bouncy at high speed over a dippy road surface, perfectly acceptable to me.

So if you are having bounce issues you can easily check the front damper settings and set the dampers to a firmer setting to see if this helps. You will need the little numbered adjusting ring and instructions that came with the KWs. If you don't have instructions or they are not on KW Germany web site PM me your email address and I can email to you.

As I messaged you, to adjust the rear dampers they need to be removed, springs do not so it is quite easy to do yourself. Fronts are very easy to adjust.

Sydneykid has a good point. Are the KWs the correct ones for your model. I'm surprised you have this issue.

The initial ride height was above the kw recommended value. Changed the height to recommended maximum height and damping to 11 at rear and 9 at front. Car now feels much better. Handling is awesome with minimal body rolls. Ride is still slightly stiffer than stock, but not uncomfortable. Here , 77 tdi weighs only 8 kg more than than 77 tsi ( 1148 versus 1140kg). I don't have the diesel spec springs.
