  • Rattle sound 2015 Polo GTI

My 2015 GTI has developed a slight rattling sound recently. It's only very soft to hear, it can only be heard at very low speed, about 10-20km/h. It sounds like it's coming from the front area.

Has as anyone had anything similar? I plan on taking it to a service centre but fear they'll say they can't find anything wrong...

Does it do it at idle?
Then when you touch the accelerator pedal to bring up revs to say 1500rpm does it go away?

No it doesn't make a sound at idle, only when the wheels are moving. It also makes the sounds when I am just rolling in neutral.

i can only hear the sound when travelling at very low speeds, I think because the combination of engine noise and road noise drowns the sound out at higher speeds.

        wrong...
From your description my bet is that it's the droplinks or endlinks that fit between the front sway bar and the body of the coils/struts. The knuckle joints on mine had locked solid, the oem ones are a very small and flimsy looking joint in comparison to the aftermarket ones I ended up fitting. I did not go to the dealer with my issue because I had coilovers fitted.

It's a very annoying rumbling sound that transfers up through the body and happens over even minor road imperfections and you will hear it at only low speed exactly as you described. Hope this helps.

Unless you have a manual, keep in mind you're not supposed to coast the DSG gearbox in Neutral.

              Rattle sound 2015 Polo GTI

I've been investigating a rattle in my polo gti, comes on under load between 2-2.5k...a very annoying wastegate rattle. Very common once you know what it is. Affects the 2.0 and 1.8ltr engines, but I can only see a fix is developed for the 2.0 engines.

Had my car serviced last week and VW said they couldn't locate the noise, when I picked it up I took a mechanic out for a drive and it was easy to hear the rattle. Said there's not much you can do to fix.

Many forums including this one have threads about this wastegate rattle already and that only some VW dealerships will try and fix it for you under warranty. Most just state it's a characteristic of the model.

I took the car in a few weeks ago to the North Shore VW service centre in Sydney. I took the car for a drive with someone and they could definately hear it but didn't seem to have any idea what it could be.

They wanted me to leave the car with them then but they said they'd need to keep it for 2 or 3 days to try and identify it/fix it. I couldn't afford to not have my car that long so I rebooked for this coming Tuesday when they have a loan car available. I'll keep you informed, it's definately getting louder though recently!

Personally i think it is suspension related, the noise is its loudest on bumpy roads and going over speed bumps it makes a funny squishing type sound that doesn't sound normal. I am really keen to hear what VW have to say.

Ive got an interior rattle coming from either the steering column or the very base of the dash (meeting the steering column).

Seems to be fine when cruising but and then you give it some load, weight changes and they there is a bit of flex in the steering column and its creaking.

Not wrist cutting material but starting to grind away at me knowing its there.

An update on the rattle sound....

The car has been with VW for 2 days now. I received a call today and they told me they still can't identify the problem. The lady on the phone said they are changing parts and testing them to see if the problem is fixed....

Just got my car back, the issue was a front right hand side sway bar link that needed replacing. Does anyone know what may have caused this? The blonde on the counter at VW didn't have much of an idea. Problem is all fixed though now so I'm happy!

Also, I took note of the KM on my odometer when I dropped the car off and when I picked it up, they added 42km over the 3 days they had it. Does this seem like a lot or normal for VW service centres?

They probably did a heap of roads tests trying to work out where the noise was coming from and to see if what they changed worked. Change a part, go for a drive, still rattling, go back and try again, etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, as long as the noise is gone and doesn't come back. The sway bar end link was probably faulty.

So I drove my car this morning and have now noticed a huge scratch on one of the rims. It defiantly wasn't me... Anyone have any suggestions??
