Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Traction control and tyre pressure came on at random times

    Hi all

My 2010 Polo randomly turned on its traction control and tyre pressure warnings during driving. The tyre pressure has been resetted but still does the same warnings at random time. Took it to Volkspower for service and they have no clue. Anyone has same isues or idea why? It hasn't affected the handling although i haven't tried sudden braking on the car to see if the abs would activate if the traction control warning turns on.

My 2011 Polo 1.2TSi DSG exhibited similar problems. I took it to my mechanic and he said that throttle body was the cause and cleaned it. Everything back to normal after that. I said to him that seems silly and he suggested that sometimes the fault codes may not relate to the immediate issue. He also offered that sometimes a low battery can influence readings.

Must be some logical reason. Start with slow deflation problem due to puncture. Abnormal tyre wear on one side caused by alignment problem. Wheel sensor fault. Etc

I had this problem yesterday with a B7 Passat. After a few hours thinking about it, and confirming that no tyre was going flat, I inflated all tyres to the sme pressure and recalibrated through the MFD menu the tyre pressure sensor. The warning light went off and has not returned. Problem solved!

As Gavin noted. The traction control works by cutting or overriding the throttle position which is electronically controlled ie no physical connection between the accelerator and the throttle any more. Therefore if there is a problem with the throttle body then the traction control cannot work properly.
