  • Another awesome funny noise thread

So this one has me baffled, it only started about 4 weeks ago.

The noise remains for a good 15-20 minutes after key out and doors locked.

I would never have notice it if my grandmother didn't say my car sounds like it's got a bee hive in it.

    Youtube for those interested!

    Any help is good help.

Could it be something to do with the amazing vacuum water pumps these cars possess?

Some of the relays do buzz as well, but really nothing should run on after the engine stops for any length of time unless you have a turbo timer right? It would be good if any of the mechanics on here chimed in, but really you need to drop in at your dealer i would think and get them to tell you what it is.

Sounds like the aux water pump is abit noisy. Pretty sure it sits under the manifold on those ones.

Yes, it's the aux water pump. But it shouldn't be that noisy. Ours certainly isn't.
They can get damaged if they run dry. Or it's just worn out.

                Very interesting!

I've had my water pump replaced before, but it has never ran dry.

Maybe I should get VW to look at it before my warranty is up in 4 months..

So today I had my booking at Alto VW
I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

Water pump and heater hose replacement, the hose was a little bit leaky (explains why i had to keep topping it up) and the water pump was not operating correctly. (This is my second water pump in 30,000km... im losing faith in them.)

Also had the armrest securing bolts tightened because it was waving around..

AND they washed my car (it was filthy from my trip home from canberra)

I'm a little nervous about the water pump fiasco, i don't know if this is the end of it. I was told that even though i've had it replaced under warranty, when my car is out of warranty in 10,000km/4 months, the parts replaced under warranty do not carry a seperate warranty.. Unless i pay to have the parts replaced, then they carry a 2 year guarantee.

What do we know about the fail rate of these things? or have i just been unlucky?

If it helps, I've had my 2010 77TSI for 15 months from 108,000km to 141,000km and we've had no problems with a water pump.

I don't think you're unlucky.. its simply a manufacturing fault as VW explained to me when my water pump decided to play up at 45000k. I wasnt impressed but VW recognised this and paid for the parts and a portion of the labor cost. And yes the replaced parts are under a 2 yr warranty. My suggestion would be to ask VW to apply a gesture of goodwill if ur water pump plays up after the warranty period. Good luck
