    Cheers guys, really appreciate it.

I'm checking out a GTI and a 81TSI Comfortline on the weekend so i may have a new polo, or not, we will see.

The numbers look good though, a lot better than my previous car which was a 2010 Forester XT. But then again that's a lot bigger of a car lol. I used to get 9-9.5 L/100km at best on the freeway with it.

My MY16 Polo GTI manual with 3500 kms on the clock is averaging 6.5 l/100kms. The best economy I've had so far is on a trip from Canberra to Junee return, where I achieved 5.5 l/100kms. I drive it reasonably hard too - 2nd gear is regularly pedal to the metal.

I am averaging around 9-10 per 100klm. I am not gentle with it and regularly put the boot into it. I am sure if i drove more sedately and fuel conscious I would get around the 7 mark. These are small sporty machines and deserve to be drive that way. Whats the point of having a car and not driving it the way the designer intended.

It's just a shopping trolley engine. It's no different to what they put in Passats, Superbs, Skoda Scouts, Octavias and other VW product.

And yes, you must be thrashing it if you are getting 9L/100km.

Driving a car hard and using the engine is hardly thrashing it. If you aren't doing this fairly regularly in a polo gti can't really see the point in owning one.

Having had 8 years and 175k of ownership of a 1.8tsi EA888 (with mods), I know how they have to be driven to average 9L/100km. And I didn't say he shouldn't be doing it. As I said, they are just a shopping trolley engine, but whatever floats your boat...

Hey guys, i ended up getting a 2015 Polo GTI manual a few weeks ago, thanks for the info on the fuel consumption.

I haven't had a really good run driving it to work yet but it seems to get around 6L/100km. I do about 95% freeway commuting with 160km every day 6 days a week so i'm really looking forward to the savings

I get around the 9L per 100km but basically all is city driving and in traffic with the GTI. Some driving is a bit more spirited but mainly just normal driving.

Disagree with the shopping trolley comment. The 1.8 is the same engine as the 2litre that's in the Golf GTI, Golf R and Audi A3 and S3 models. The only difference is it's bored to a 2l and has a larger turbo. Let's just say the S3 is made to be driven hard and holds up very well. The 1.8l is the same motor as in the Audi S1. If you aren't buying a GTI for a bit of fun stick with the 81.

I had the 81 Polo before the GTI and fuel economy was amazing. I could drive Brisbane to Bundaberg and back on one tank. Around town great as well.

From Newcastle to Brisbane averaging around 5.9L/100 on the Highway. Around town closer to 8-10L/100.

Mine varies greatly depending on how it's driven. From 5.6L/100k 13k trip from the golf course to home, partly downhill, to as much as 10L/100k on a short 'spirited' run. Car has a 'few' mods. and averages around 7.8L/100k 95% around town but I avoid heavy traffic.

Finally got a good run to work without a traffic jam and no 45 degree weather and i managed to get this fuel economy. Pretty damned happy.

Yeah it's pretty good as far as commutes go

What is even better is when i feel like it i can take a slight b-line through the national park which heads the same direction home! So i have a super fuel efficient car or a super fun car, i love it!

Hey there, i have had my MY16 polo Gti now for 6 weeks (bought it with 7k). One of the things that attravted me was claimed fuel consumption and it has been no where near the figures. 80% of driving is 80kmph or more without over reving, no AC on usine cruise control, stop start on and the most i get out of a tank is 620km (was hoping for high 700) and averages just on or over 7L/100

In saying that we also have a 92tsi golf which will consistantly average mid 4L/100 and pull around 950km out of a tank which is in line with figures as per specs.

Could there be an issue with engine/fuel managemen? Keeping in mind i dont know how the car was run in.

I use 98ron fuel and dont know what else i can do to get better fuel consumption out of her.
