My partner has driven the car and has also had the same experience.
I had a friend that works at the front desk in service so he booked me in and tried to get them to look at my car ASAP.

On inspection, they had mentioned that a whole bunch of Polo's have come out of factory with the same issue - apparently replacing the gearbox won't fix the issue. Volkswagen are apparently aware of the issue and they have don't yet have a current solution to fixing the issue. So in the meantime I have to put up with the gearbox and continue complaining about the issue until they have a solution.
Didn't get charged a service fee as they had located the issue.

Also make sure the dealer will contact you when Volkswagen finally find a fix for the issue. Because they picked up mine within the warranty-period, if for some reason it extends over, I should be covered.

Are you able to push the clutch right to the floor? No thick floor mats or such?

Glad mine hasn't had any of those issues Tessie. Super smooth and quiet, no crunching and slots into 1st gear at remarkably high speeds and NEVER baulks at going into reverse. Bought it at Wippells too and done 7000km in 7 weeks - it's perfect, just like our Golf.

I have VW mats that were fitted from the dealer, so no.. Clutch is definitely to the floor - sometimes i have to release it back a bit for the gear to pop in. Otherwise i sit there having to switch from 2nd or 4th (when the car is off or when i am stopped) to get it back into first or reverse.

Argh you're so lucky! I've had so many issues with mine - I don't blame Wippells as they traded the car from another dealer. Just sucks that they can't do much.

Do you slot into first while rolling? I can't downshift it right so it goes in nice and smoothly - love throwing it into 2nd though and watching it take off haha

If you ever see a pepper grey polo with green P's that's me!

Our gearbox seems same since new. Not a mechanically friendly box. Clunkiest/baulkiest manual gearbox I have driven for a long while. Dealer said 2 mechanics said it was normal. I told service rep that I thought it was because vw specified thin oil for better fuel consumption and he agreed. I presume it would be better with a marginally heavier grade oil. But has anyone tried??? Presume it would not be a good idea under warranty. So putting up with it for now...

The problem is that gearbox revs can't be matched at standstill. Synchros not that great. Apart from changing to a heavier oil, best I can think of is sit on the clutch a bit longer before changing to let the input shaft gears slow down.

My old Honda Civic did the opposite. Slick change went to baulky and stiff with synthetic multigrade engine oil. Box was happier with single weight sae 30 ( still synthetic).

3rd gear is 'troublesome' in my GTI. Doesn't like being rushed (WOT run) - advised by a VW mechanic that it feels 'different' to other gears but still being broken in compared to other gears. 2nd to 3rd or 4th to 3rd, it just doesn't slot in nicely like others.
