Swirls in White Paint

Hey guys..

So I am pretty anal about swirls on paint and have noticed the swirls from the dealer are terrible on my new white Polo GTi..

Has anyone else got the same issue? I have clay bar the entire car and used an Autoglym wax which has improved it slightlt but in the right sunlight the swirls are still visible.

Is it just far more visible on a Duco White then on Metallics?

Mine came the same. Clay bar will not get rid of swirls, only using a machine with a stage one correction will remove it. A professional detailer will charge you about $170 - $200 for the job.

Neither the clay bar nor the wax will fix swirls. You need at least a light polish. Meguiars Swirl-X is an example of an over the counter product, though I'm sure Autoglym will have an equivalent. And from what I've seen white shows swirls far less than, say, a dark metallic.

Do yourself a favour and on any service at vw ask them not to do the courtesy of washing your car because they do a **** job. They orbital polish it but with dirty pads and get wax and scuff marks on your rubber window frames

Same here, especially around the C Pillar on the right hand side. Also, heaps of overspray or "muck" from the transport from Spain to AUS. Just washed her for the 3rd time in 3 weeks....need to get the clay bar out and swirl remover/paint cleaner (by hand)

The only way to fix swirls is with a proper machine correction, ScratchX only introduces more surface marring and this is what masks the swirls.

This is why I developed a pre-delivery checklist to walk into a dealership with because contrary to what the slimy bastards that sell cars tell you, you can refuse to drive away in your new car if it is not delivered to you in a satisfactory manner and ultimately it is your call if it is satisfactory or not. You wouldn't for out $2000 for a stainless steel fridge and be happy that when it arrives it's all scratched would you? So why accept it for a $30,000 motor vehicle?!

Picked up my white gti yesterday and same thing! mines white also, they asked me to bring it back in and they'll correct it, but I'm not sure if I should trust them as they obviously put the swirls in the paint in the first place.

My service people don't do a courtesy wash anymore, instead they give you a code by SMS for a free carwash at IMO valid for 3 months.

I've had a number of white cars over the years (in fact we have 3 in the family now), and a number of years ago I invested in all the gear to correctly polish the cars. This includes a random dual action (DA) rotary polisher. Most people are quite rightly concerned about using a rotary polisher because of the ease of 'burning' through the paint. A random DA polisher has none of these concerns because of the way it works.

I bought my gear from a place in Sydney when I was living there, and for the c$500 it cost for all the equipment has paid for itself many times over. I also did a training course with them when I purchased.

The good news is they've just opened here in Perth (in Burswood). I'm not affiliated with them, or suggesting they're the only suggestion, however it is worth looking at some of the videos on their website to see what you can do.

And then a good detailer will charge $400 to fix that.
Especially since VAG non-metallic whites (like Candy and Glacier) are rock hard.
