Same issue today when I picked up my MY16 GTI.

The service department told my salesman that it will cost $400 to activate a button that is already on the steering wheel and displayed in photos on the website with no indication that it is an optional extra. Fortunately, my salesman is on my side and is trying to get it activated for me for free. If he's unsuccessful then I'll escalate the issue with Fair Trading, as it's a clear case of misleading conduct.

Finally reached a resolution with my dealer after much argument and denial of responsibility. The general manager tried to tell me there was nothing to remedy and it wasn't in any way misleading. Funny what threatening to report them to the ACCC can achieve. They're going to activate voice control free of charge and are ordering in the parts for it. I think it's just an SD card. If anyone runs into the same problem, stick to your guns. Don't let the dealer try to fob you off to head office. Your contract is with them, not Volkswagen Australia.

Has anyone had much success in activating this function. I am thinking about contacting 3rd Party VW specialists to see if they are able to assist with this activation ?

Just wondering, if anyone else has approached companies over than VW ?

It is not an SD card. You are paying for an activation code/pin. Can only be turnt on at a dealer and would be a one time use thing, i would assume.

Yes I had mine activated.. It's an optional extra that the dealer failed to mention. Paid $400 for it to be activated. Works well though once you work out its quirks even with my accent . I am surprised that this should be part of the car...

The title says driver assistance voice control. Is this a new feature or just the old "dial John Doe" or "play cd"?

It's newish... Sort of integrates into the whole unit... Navigation, music control, phone. When you press the voice command button, any command that is high lighted in red can be executed.

Did you just go back to the dealer after you bought the car and get it done?

Yup. They had to "order" it in. My Car is MY15 with DA Pack hence it cost $400. Cars without DA Pack is about $200. This is due to the sat Nav part of it.

I know that it is annoying having it just sitting there and not being able to use it at all.
