  • Ripped Antenna out of roof.

Sadly my garage door has grown a mind of its own and as such my antenna has parted company with my roof. Anybody want to pick a number out of a hat and suggest how much fixing it will cost?

Have a trawl through other forum posts to see if there are recommendations (I seem to recall there are, but cant quickly find them)
Ebay has some for <$10 but buyer beware.

So the cable attached to the antenna has broken. Replacement cost? About 8 hours labour. I'm giving that a miss and will just go without the radio. My poor little Polo!

Whats the go with the Antenna if you want to go thru an automated car wash? Do they unscrew or you can just drive straight in?

I don't think they unscrew. Im guessing they are tough enough to go through a carwash as they said that one had never come off before.

Nah the bracket underneath bent and then the whole thing came through the pre existing hole they cut in the roof for it.

Yep. That's why I haven't been driving it. The poor mrs has had to drive me to work and back. It started very lightly showering when I was dropping it off at VW this morning and I nearly crapped my daks!

Did it tug and bend the roof sheet metal? I'd get it assessed by insurance

Not really. It's mainly a case of the difference between the size of the hole in the roof and the length of the the bracket legs not being very much. The legs have bent, the roof has flexed, and out she popped! I'll look into the insurance aspect.

No radio is one thing but I'd be so worried with whatever fix you could come up with on the cheap to permanently keep water out. Plus resale would drop as much if not more than what the fix is worth. So why have the inconvenience for so many years anyway... Hope it gets sorted out what a crap problem to have to deal with

I be decided to go the whole hog and have it fixed properly by the dealer. Well with a bit of a nudge by the wife.
If I get the parts back I'll post a photo of what I'm talking about regarding the part that goes under the roof.
