  • 2015 Polo 6C RECALL

The brand new 2015 6C Polo has just been recalled.
    The government recalls website states:

"On affected vehicles, the pulley on the camshaft adjuster can break. If the camshaft adjuster fails the belt drive of the engine may also be damaged."

"If the defect occurs, this can lead to oil loss and in the worst case scenario the engine will no longer be timed correctly and valves may contact the pistons. This may pose an accident hazard to the driver or other road users."

I'm guessing the 1.2TSI (66/81kW) as the 1.8T in the GTI doesn't use a timing belt, but rather a chain. Could be wrong though.

Given they are targeting 2708 vehicles in the recall it would appear to be relating to the EA211 1.2 TSI.

Edit - and the timing belt thing as above

There's a warranty for a reason, I'm sure yours will be fine

A voluntary recall without a long drawn out public relations nightmare? Thats an interesting idea.

I have a 2015 Polo 81tsi and today I called up Volkswagen Australia customer service and the guy I spoke to said I'd get a letter soon apparently if my car is affected but couldn't tell me anything else.

I then called dealership where I bought my car and after I gave the service department receptionist my vehicle registration they told me that my car is definitely not affected.

So now I'm not sure either way...
I may have to get a few other opinions!

Here's 2 motoring websites reporting on the recall:
Recalls: Volkswagen Polo, Holden YG Cruze, LDV Vans | The Motor Report

And again the recall on the governments
                        ".gov" recalls website
                        Recalls

It's a belt but not sure why that would matter anyway.
