Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Polo Vs Golf

I was looking at getting a 2013 Golf gti with about 15k on the clock, but I could get a fully loaded Polo gti for roughly around the same price (35k)

What would be the better buy?

    The Polo of course.

From a very biased Polo owner lol.

If you can extend the warranty and push the price a little further I would buy the Golf GTi if I were in your shoes.

Better handling then the Polo IMO.

I have just faced this same dilemma and went with the Golf (2012 with 10,000km)

There is not much in it but it's a bit bigger, feels more refined, rides and handles better, looks better from the rear IMO and is more powerful.

golf is a better handling car in my opinion - this is coming from a Polo driver.

In what conditions? How do you measure the handling capability of your car?

Have the same dilemma myself, leaning towards the polo as it's still big enough for me and the new engine and manual option is way better than the old twincharge/dsg combo of the previous polo. Brand new car too so longest possible warranty over a 12 or 13 car. Have heard that the new one with a stage 1 tune will able to be as quick as the mk6 golf gti with an equivalent stage 1 tune. Drawback on the polo I'd say as most have mentioned is the handling is probably not as good as the golf as its a solid rear beam I'm pretty sure
