77tsi brake upgrade... 6r gti brakes? or new rotors

  • 77tsi brake upgrade... 6r gti brakes? or new rotors

    hey vww'ers

    i have a 2012 77tsi. at 40k the rotorss were machined due to shudder, and now at 45k they are shuddering again.
    im looking into upgrading,
    is much invoved into fitting a second hand set of 6r gti fronts? carriers etc included?
    or should i just go for a tougher aftermarket rotor and some uprated pads?
    is coding needed to go to gti fronts?

    any input is appreciated

    Saving $$ for: mk6 gti

    With this in mind, get std discs and some better pads. Call GSL Rallysport tomorrow and have your VIN ready.

    Can't comment on the stress of going to GTI brakes, but there's no point in blowing hard earned when you don't need it.
    Most VWs can handle plenty of extra performance before needing bigger brakes.

      fair call i wasnt sure how much work was involved,
      if its a pain in the a$$ i wont bother.

        Total overkill for a 1.2 tsi, but I think it looks mad... Lol

          Tell whoever is putting your wheels on/off to torque the bolts correctly and you won't have shudder issues. The tiny discs on them generally warp if the hub bolts are over tightened. (eg. rattle gun at a tyre shop)

            120Nm is the correct torque. preferably torque to 90 then 120 (that's my method)

            I also don't think that VW rotors take to machining very well. Generally you can only pull them down a couple of mm before you get to minimum thickness. Assuming you have the 256mm fronts then the new thickness is 22mm & min is 19mm.

            My mate has a 77tsi. He pedals it fairly hard and his main complaint about the brakes has been the dust. He fitted Remsa pads but I haven't had any feedback on what he thinks.

              I've been running DBA T2's in the same size as your Polo (256mm) and had them glowing red at track days without any warping (there are surface cracks on them but that's normal at that level of abuse). I got them from GSLRallySport/Brakes Direct Australia and highly recommend dealing with them.
