  • Servicing question 4 years old only 15,000km

    Polo 77Tsi has just turned 4 so needs to be serviced.

    However it has just turned over 15,000 km

    Which service should I get them to do.

    Apart from one 1000km trip it is just used as the shopping basket 25km max with very occasional trips to town 100km return.

    Dont want to spend unnecessary money but need to do the right thing.

    Volkswagen maintenance requirements as per the service schedule, based on time intervals;

    - Engine oil and oil filter every year.
    - Pollen filter and brake fluid every two years.
    - Spark plugs and fuel filter (only if equipped and excluding internal tank filters) every four years.

    At a minimum, it is recommended that the engine oil and oil filter be replaced, as well as the brake fluid if age exceeds two years since last fill.

    If the vehicle warranty has expired, the pollen filter and spark plugs can be replaced based on condition if you prefer. I do not know the reasoning behind a time interval for spark plugs.

    The air filter is replaced every 45 000 km and has no time interval. Avoid opening the air filter housing or remove the air filter unnecessarily. The filter seal is not designed for repeated fittings and should not be disturbed.

      I just had mine done - 4 years and 14,xxx km - and did the "4 year" service.

      For the sake of having a complete service history, I've always had the Polo serviced annually regardless of km

        You should do the nearest major service based on time rather than distance travelled.

        If you go purely on time, you could miss an important item. So look at a 4 year service, but if there is a major service that should have been done earlier that has been missed, do the items from that that are not on the 4 year service.

            The DQ200 gearbox has no scheduled maintenance requirements.

                There is no DSG oil required on the 77tsi. Your major would just be brake fluid, spark plugs, fuel filter and oil change.

                      DSG not required - it's a dry 7 speed.

                      Our NESB female neighbour came over last week asking me to check her service invoice for her Mazda 3. It was the 12 month service & she's only done 6500km (apparently it's supposed to be serviced every 6 months but that's another story).

                      The service was a basic oil & filter & inspect brakes, suspension, etc.

                      labour = $198+GST.
                      Oil & workshop sundries $75

                      Then they charged her $14 for engine flush, $14 for fuel injector cleaner, $99 for a fuel injection service & $99 for an AC system clean / sanitise service. After some discussion with the service manager they are doing the next service for $60. As i said to him "These mazdas must have real issues if the fuel injection needs a service every 12months."

                      ***kin' robbers.

                        VW tried to pull the same stunt with me on it's first annual service when it had done less than 3,000km

                        Thankfully they called me before they did it so I told them to go jump

                          I had words yesterday as they put a can of additive in the car as tank was down. Wasnt mentioned and when I got home and read the invoice I had been charged $28 + GST without being told.

                          Am not happy at all

                            Why not? Have you been using regularly the fuel additive?

                            Since you've done only 15,000km in 4 years, I'd suggest you use a good additive that also removes the moisture from the fuel and void using the fuel that could've contain an Ethanol.

                              No never used it and it has never been mentioned at previous services. Had I been advised I may have accepted it but to add something and charge for it without telling a customer is bad customer relations.

                              Would you do that???
