APR Stage 1 Tune - Finally Available for CTH Engines!

After the very long wait, I recieved the email on Monday (has since been posted on their Facebook Page too), that the APR Stage 1 tune is now finally available for the CTH engine Polo GTI!

Email from APR as follows:

"APR Australia are proud to release software for 2012.5 > 1.4 Twincharger ECU Polo GTI CTH.
The stage 1 software upgrade gives gains taking the vehicle to 158kw & 339nm of torque."

I have never dealt with Quattro Motors before (I'm in WA), but will be giving them a buzz to get this done.

My only query/concern is are the gearbox and internals up to handling the 339nm?
Previous Stage 1 tune offered by APR was rated at 300nm.

I have had it done, changes the car completely. Would suggest getting the DSG tune done also... That will be the next mod after xmas.

Is it the same tune or have they tweaked it a bit further for more gains?

My memory might be a bit fuzzy but it seems as though they got more power out of it. I cant seem to find the old documentation

I found through Google cache, the image of the old tune.

200hp, and 223 ft lbs torque (which converts to 302nm).

With this new setup, the engineers that were sent over to Aus for the testing were able to unlock a bit more power from the cars.

Yes, its a new calibration all together as well. Eventually it will filter down to the existing CAV engine customers A lot of hours went into this.

So I wonder when Jake is officially starting at EuroCare so I can book this in?

I called up Quattro yesterday (before finding out this morning that Quattro Motors are planning to shut shop), to discuss the tune, and Jake just said they're booked out till Mid Jan, but never mentioned anything about Quattro Closing, or the move to EuroCare.

Also with the Christmas Sale, I was told that to get the discount the job has to literally have the work carried out within the sale period.

I thought that as long as you booked and paid for the tune within the sale period, that even if the date they are free to get the work done falls outside of the sales period (in this case mid Jan), you should still be eligible?

These workshops are all booked out weeks ahead of time, so unless I've missed something, it seems you have to somehow predict when a sale is expected to occur so that you can book it in a few weeks prior so that the work gets carried out during the sales date period?

Surely not? ...I'm confused! :/

Guy, does this mean a new customer with a CAVE engine can get the updated tune now? Well done guys on getting that bit more out. Hopefully it'll be safe for these touchy engines. Cheers

Here's a question that you might be able to shed some light on.
My MY13 CAV engine was replaced under warranty @ 18000km, with what I was told was a CTH series engine which was current production (at teh time) with all the hardware updates to reduce oil consumption. Had to wait 3 months for engine from OS since there were none left in Aus. The replacement engines apparently come blank and are re-stamped to match engine number on chassis. Is the ecu hardware different between CAV & CTH engine cars or just the coding? I suppose what I'm asking is, could my car be tuned considering the ECU hardware might still be CAV with CTH coding? Is there anyway to check the hardware or software to see what is in the car? Do you think they were telling me porkies when they said it was replaced with a CTH engine? Is that even possible?

I had mine done today. Needless to say, I took the long way home!
First impressions are:
- as the graph suggests, below 2000rpm it feels similar.
- there is a definite surge when the turbo takes over and this is where it gets fun!
- the engine just feels smoother and gear changes seem much better (?)
- there is torque everywhere!
- intake noise (suck and whooshes!) and DSG farts sound different/better. I have HP intake and resi delete.
- and, I may need to check this further, the oil temperature stayed 3 or so degrees lower than usual. I drive with the MFD on oil temp.
Very happy!

Spare - yes, tune has to be done in the sale period - its an electronic thing, and the sale promotion code is swiched off on the server by the US APR staff - out of Australia's control. Jake is at Eurocare as of the 12th January I understand - and a second Perth distributor starting late January.

If you have a full invoice from VW with part numbers I might be able to check the hardware used.

Intake works well, and better when coupled with an exhaust too. expect an extra ~15 kw crank, an intercooler is also worthwhile!

Depends on your ECU part number, but the gains are as leaked above in the old vs new graphs.

100% agree with Guy, the air intake makes a difference (as well as the sound) and doing the exhaust made it a pretty much complete new experience driving. Well worth the upgrade. Currently saving for the intercooler, as in the QLD warmth the power doesn't stay for long once heat soak sets in.
