  • That time of year - springs vs coilovers

    Hey guys,

So have been doing a lot of research in the lead-up to purchasing some new springs or coilovers. There's a huge debate surrounding the fact that springs are harmful to your suspension over time, thus it's worth saving the money and waiting for coilovers and they prove to be better for the system. Any thoughts on this?

Considering H&R 25/40mm or some Weitec Coils; would appreciate any advice on good quality springs/coilovers and where you guys sourced them from.

    Cheers!

Why not just a good matched set of springs and dampers?

    I.e. H&R or Eibach/Bilstein.

Cheaper than good coilovers, and better than cheap coilovers.

biggest advantage with coilovers is the adjustability.

you can slam it, or jack it up depending on your circumstances. Takes about 15-20 minutes per corner

          coilovers....

if you start out with a fixed hight, you'll eventually think its not low enough. with coilovers, you can lower and raise to your hearts content, even if just in little bits over time.... you'll get that height perfect.
start out the right way with coilovers and you'll be happy until your considering bags...

Coilovers are your best option mate. I have tried H&R 35/55 (on stock shocks), H&R 25/40 (on stock shocks) and for a small time H&R 25/40 on Bilstein B14 shocks before I put the rest of the B14 coilover kit in

Everything but the coilover kit was extremely uncomfortable. The 35/55 springs where rock solid, the 25/40 weren't too bad but over med to big bumps would run out of travel and hit the strut top which was very harsh, and putting the Bilstein shocks in didn't really help as it still wasn't matched properly.

The Bilstein B14 coilovers are the best I've had better cornering and dampening. Seriously just save up the money and get the coilovers

Also there is the adjustment benefit of coilovers.

So Blistein B14 coilovers you'd suggest nomad?
Open to suggestions for coils, gotta start saving towards something.
ATYPIC I'd be interested in grabbing a price man, if that's alright?

I'll certainly do you a great price... but I need to ask are you driving a GTI?

The H&Rs will fit your vehicle however they are really meant for the heavier gti front end weight.

This means you may have a marginally harsher ride but it will probably be better through those highway dips as there is less rebound occurring.

Hi, I have a 6R (2010) GTI until my arthritis in neck got worse I could handle the "jarring" stock suspension . I am looking to make it a more comfortable less jarring ride is this possible on the GTI, I dont mind lowering it a BIT and happy with handling as is, just need it to be less jarring. I live in Northern Rivers NSW so roads are pretty crappy but hope to move to Sunshine coast in about a year where the roads are a bit better . My other thoughts were to wait till 2015 and see if the next model has adaptive suspension which i am not sure of (if adaptive suspension makes it softer I am also not sure?)that`s if I can afford the next model. Any help appreciated thanks
