Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Apple Maps & Polo Bluetooth

    Hi All,

I am trying to get Apple Maps to work over bluetooth audio but it seems that I must be doing something wrong as it only works over 'HFP' prompts (I would be happy with the HFP prompts if it didn't cut of half the navigation audio!).

I downloaded Google Maps and it works fine over the bluetooth audio so I have concluded that I must be missing something. Can anyone help me out with this? I have listed the details of the setup below to help.

    - Bluetooth 'thingy' has been replaced by VW iPhone 5 Handy Adapter.
    - Phone is connected to 'VW Phone'
    - Head unit is an RCD310 with BT Audio selected to 'ON'

Thank you in advance for your help!

Both apps should work when the head unit is set to the Bluetooth input, however the HFP prompts thingy means you can listen to radio/CD etc and it will emulate a phone call so the head unit will switch back and forth between whatever you are listening to and the navigation prompts without you having to be solely listening to the Bluetooth input.

I've tried HPF prompts on an iPhone 5 in my Megane over Bluetooth and I have found the same problem, in that half the navigation prompt is cut off. This is just due to the head unit and how quickly it can switch sources. e.g if you get a phone call while connected to your car via Bluetooth, your phone will actually start ringing slightly before the head unit switches sources and rings itself.

Hopefully that makes some sense to you, but basically the only fix is to be listening to audio via Bluetooth on your phone with the maps app open, not listening to radio/CD etc. and relying on HFP prompts.

Thank you! I thought that May have been the case. Makes perfect sense. I just wish HFP prompts would work better
